Bestowal Dialogue

To appease the grief of Reeve Fríthild's children, Thane Ordlac has chosen to hold a private -- and unsettlingly cheerful -- funeral for the late Reeve of the Broadacres....

Background

You have come to Reeve Fríthild's House to honour her before her children.

Objective 1

Thane Ordlac stands before the table where Reeve Fríthild lies.

You should speak with Thane Ordlac before the funeral begins.

Ordlac: 'I am glad that you are able to join us, my friend. I am sure that Fríthild would have wished it. Let us begin....'

Objective 2

  • Observe the funeral proceedings
Ordlac says, "My friends, we are here to pay tribute to a great woman...."
Ordlac says, "Fríthild has passed from our fellowship, but let us not view her passing with mourning...."
Ordlac says, "Rather, let us celebrate her valour and courage."
Ordlac says, "<name>, will you bring Fríthild's shield and lay it upon her?"
  • Collect Reeve Fríthild's shield

Fríthild's shield is on the table near the door.

Thane Ordlac asked you to retrieve Fríthild's shield and place it upon her in state.

Collected Reeve Fríthild's shield

Objective 3

  • Place Fríthild's shield upon her in state

Fríthild lies upon the table before the fireplace.

Objective 4

Watch the funeral proceedings.

Ordlac says, "Fríthild was a trained as a shield-maiden of Rohan...."
Ordlac says, "And though it has been hundreds of years since our womenfolk went to war, she was no less skilled in the art."
Ordlac says, "She was in truth a shield of great strength against the evils of our time. Let us honour her for this."
Ordlac says, "<name>...."

Objective 5

Thane Ordlac stands before the table where Reeve Fríthild lies.

Thane Ordlac wishes for you to speak with him again.

Ordlac: '<name>, will you bring Fríthild's sword and place it, as well, upon her in honour?'

Objective 6

  • Collect Reeve Fríthild's sword

Fríthild's sword is on the table near the door.

Thane Ordlac asked you to retrieve Fríthild's sword and place it upon her in state.

Objective 7

  • Place Reeve Fríthild's sword upon her in state

Fríthild lies upon the table before the fireplace.

Thane Ordlac asked you to retrieve Fríthild's sword and place it upon her in state.

Placed Reeve Fríthild's sword upon her in state

Objective 8

  • Watch the funeral proceedings.

Watch the funeral proceedings.

Ordlac says, "Fríthild was a great swordswoman, and the foe learned this through many forays."
Ordlac says, "Though her allies fell around her, she stood strong in the face of great evil...."
Ordlac says, "Indeed, not only was she the shield of the Broadacres, but she was its sword of swift vengeance."
Ordlac says, "Let us honour her for this!"
Engifu says, "I beg your pardon, Thane, and mean no offence to you, but these words are hollow and are of no comfort...."
Ordlac says, "I take no offence, I assure you...it is understandable that you grieve."

Objective 9

Thane Ordlac stands before the table where Reeve Fríthild lies.

Thane Ordlac wishes for you to speak with him again.

Ordlac: 'My thanks to you for bringing honour to Fríthild. It means much to her children. However, before we adjourn, I must make one pronouncement, and you should be a witness to it....'
  • Witness Ordlac's pronouncement
Ordlac says, "Before we adjourn, I must make known Fríthild's last wishes...."
Ordlac says, "As Fríthbert has not yet come of age and Thane Tordag perished in Torsbury...."
Ordlac says, "I am regent of the Broadacres and protector of Fríthild's children...."
Ordlac says, "Of this, <name> was a witness to, as were all present here."

Objective 10

Young Reeve Fríthbert and his sister Edhild appear distraught at Thane Ordlac's pronouncement. You should speak with them.

Fríthbert: 'Good <class>, did our mother truly proclaim Thane Ordlac as our regent? This is most horrible.
'I cannot say why, but Ordlac makes me uneasy. He always seems friendly and cheerful, but me makes light even of sad things....'
Edhild: 'I am frightened, <name>. Thane Ordlac smiles very much, but I do not like his eyes. There is no kindness in his eyes. He looks at us strangely, and it frightens me.'

Objective 11

Dudsig is near the door to Reeve Fríthild's house.

Dudsig wishes to speak with you.

Dudsig: 'Thane Ordlac has instructed me to keep the children in seclusion. I am sure you understand that with their mother dead and Fríthbert not yet old enough to assume his title, they are in danger...you never found the traitor in Oserley, you know.
'As much as I dislike you, you have proven a trusted friend to the Broadacres; however, even you will not be allowed to speak with the children again without Thane Ordlac's leave.
'Good day to you.'
Ordlac has proclaimed himself regent of the Broadacres
Dudsig: 'I believe you were dismissed....'
