Patch Notes - Update 2 Echoes of The Dead
Of Special Note
3/18/2011
Radiance Removal
We’ve heard your feedback! The radiance system has been removed from the game. Find out the original goals and reasons for removal in the Developer Diary.
Four New Instances and a 12 Player Raid
Five different pieces of instanced content await you! This new cluster of instances includes:
- Two three-person instances
- Two six-person instances
- One 12-person raid
All but one instance features three boss encounters and the raid features six. You can read all about them in our Instance and Raid developer diaries.
Monsterplay (PVMP) Changes
The starter area for the Ettenmoors for Monster Players got a much needed face-lift. It is not perfect but at least a step in the right direction. Players choosing to play a monster character have had their starting skills and abilities adjusted in order to improve their initial experience and survivability. Read the Developer Diary for full details.
Class Updates
The Minstrel, Burglar, and Hunter classes have received a number of changes. You can read the full details of each in their appropriate developer diaries.
Character Panel and Cosmetic System enhancements
The character panel has been revamped! Learn about the new panel, new cosmetic costume slots and other changes in the Developer Diary.
Crafting Vocation Tutorials
Starting out, crafters can find themselves full of bewilderment, wondering how they should begin their journey towards mastering each craft profession. Well, be confused no more! We’ve introduced brand new crafting vocation tutorial quests to guide you along your first steps of the path! Read the Dev Diary to learn about these new quest as well as changes to the Metalsmith and Tailor Professions.
Legendary Item Update
The legendary item system has received some significant changes. On entering the game after Update 2, all of your existing relics will be automatically unslotted from your Legendary Items. These relics will be unchanged in any way. The Legendary Item Developer Diary has the full details on the changes.
Volume III: Book 3, Echoes of the Dead
The Epic story continues! What are the Mysterious relics? All will be revealed in the continuation of the Epic Story line. Read the developer diary for behind the scenes info!
Volume II Epic Story Revamp
Players have been asking for an overhaul of the Volume II epic story to make it more solo friendly. Update 2: Echoes of the Dead brings with it the “Solofication” pass players have been waiting for!
Moria Battle Instances Converted to Skirmishes
The old Moria Battle Instances have been converted to Skirmishes. Completing the old Moria Battle Instances and turning in all of the associated quests prior to release of Update 2 will result in the Skirmishes being automatically available to that character. If Volume II, Book 5, Chapter 5 is not turned in, but the Battle Instances (and their wrapper quests) are completed and turned in, you will have to take V2B5C5 again, but the objectives will be automatically satisfied and you can complete the quest. If a given wrapper is not turned in before the Skirmish-conversion, you will have to run that quest as a Skirmish before advancing. Read the Developer Diary for more information.
Evendim Revamp
We’ve added 100 quests to Evendim and smoothed out the quest paths through the region. Learn all about these major changes in the official Developer Diary.
It’s the Little Things that Count
High Value Armour no longer Sellable
Based on player feedback, armour sets obtained from Raids can no longer be sold to vendors. If you want to remove these items from your character you will have to manually delete them by dragging them out of your pack and into the main screen. The 'Classic' Armour sets obtained from Skirmish barter vendors are also updated to not be sold at vendors.
Map Home is now a Skill
Players have suggested we make the Map Home a skill instead of an inventory item. DONE! The map home and milestone system has been revamped! The map home item now grants you a skill which will be the new way for you to recall to your home milestone. When you use a milestone, a new UI will appear and allow you to select whichever recall skill you would like to bind to that milestone. After accepting which skill you want to bind to that milestone, the skill will update to show you which milestone it is bound to and you will be able to use the skill just as you used to use the map home item to return to the appropriate milestone.
PvMP Rank Mounts Updated
The Rank 9 and Rank 12 mount stats have been enhanced to be comparable to reputation mounts.
- Rank 9: Health has been increased to 250.
- Rank 12: Speed has been increased to 168%

- The benefits from the trait “Improved Cure Fear” have been removed from the trait and added to the skill directly.

- The “Ballad Healing Bonus” provided by the “Ballad Tier” effect has been removed and replaced with new (harder, better, faster, stronger) functionality, see below.
- When a Minstrel plays a Ballad (of any tier) they receive a “Ballad Healing Bonus” buff. Each time a Ballad is played this buff is upgraded to the next tier (to a maximum of three, see below). Important Note: When the Minstrel uses a Heal skill this buff is decremented a Tier. ie; If you have “Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 3)” and use a heal, the buff changes to “Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 2)”.
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 1): +3% Healing on next heal skill, -3% Power cost on next heal skill
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 2): +6% Healing on next heal skill, -6% Power cost on next heal skill
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 3): +9% Healing on next heal skill, -9% Power cost on next heal skill
- The 3-set and 4-set bonuses of the “Watcher of Resolve” Trait Line each provide a +1% bonus per Tier to these buffs.

- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 2): +8% Healing on next heal skill, -8% Power cost on next heal skill
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 3): +12% Healing on next heal skill, -12% Power cost on next heal skill
- While if a Minstrel instead had the 4-set bonus, their buffs would look like this:
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 1): +5% Healing on next heal skill, -5% Power cost on next heal skill
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 2): +10% Healing on next heal skill, -10% Power cost on next heal skill
- Ballad Healing Bonus (Tier 3): +15% Healing on next heal skill, -15% Power cost on next heal skill
- Modded versions of “Ballad of War” (via the Legacy) will no longer be overwritten by un-modded versions.

- The armor set “Armour of the Wandering Bard” obtained in N?rz G?shu now improves the Morale -> Power ratio of “Gift of the Hammerhand” to 3:1 (Morale -&> Power) [For a frame of reference it was previously only a 2:3 ratio.]

- The legacy to be replaced must be on a Legendary Item of the same class as the Legacy Replacement scroll.
- The legacy to be replaced must be on the same type of Legendary Item from which the legacy was extracted. No moving legacies from weapons to class items.
- Major legacies (previously called Pool A legacies) can only be used to replace another Major Legacy.
Relics
- Reforging and deconstruction will no longer give the ability to safely unslot relics.
- Tier 7-9 relics will no longer be available in game. Again note, all previously acquired tier 7-9 relics will be unchanged.
