The War of Wrath was a 42-year-long conflict between the Host of Valinor and the forces of Morgoth. It was the final conflict of the Wars of Beleriand and brought about the end of the First Age.
Belligerents in the war included the Edain, the Great Eagles, and the Host of Valinor led by Eönwë, Eärendil, and Thorondor, among others. The combined forces of the Valar and their allies overwhelmed Morgoth’s armies in Beleriand, destroying many fortresses and strongholds of the Dark Lord.
The conflict culminated in the capture of Morgoth and his ultimate expulsion from Arda for all time, ending his dominion over Middle-earth and allowing the lands to begin the slow process of recovery.
