Just stumbled on your page here... looks like a good change.

I rearranged Epic Deeds and transcluded it on your page... don't know exactly what you were looking for... but it seems to fit.

Note that there are a couple of entry points which Turbine has provided in the past when they "broke" the Epic chain.

  • As I recall, Corunir was used to send you off to Dunland... nominally to start Vol. III Book 4: Rise of Isengard.
I think you simply talked to Corunir in Zudrugund and he sent you immediately to Halbarad in Lhanuch.
It was kind of a kluge ... you simply picked up where book 3 ended. I don't recall any special info provided other that being told during the beta... start book 4 with Corunir in Zudrugund. As I recall Chapter 1: The Departure of Lhanuch did not open without it. So I don't know if that trick "still works."
  • Then with The end of V3. Book 6... to get into Rohan, if you did not do book 5... you get a mail message from Galadriel: A Need in Rohan. to start V3 Book 7... The devs even provided a rope access OUTSIDE CG so you could get inside for those who had not done all of the Lothlorian quests.

There were probably others from long ago... but even though I've been playing since 2007, I only just now got around to completing the Epic on one toon! I had gotten hung up long ago at the end of book 1 before they "soloized" it. Doing the Epic consecutively does make fascinating reading/action when you do it in one swoop. It does take time (about 4-8 hours per book). Depending on session plays and the like.

Note also that if you DON'T complete all of the books, you don't have access to them in the Chronicle of Events Session Plays in Rivendell.

BTW: see also: User:Magill/Reference-Epic-index for a "collapsed" and detailed listing of the books.

argg. been too long away from this, i don't remember what all i was thinking. i did experiment with transcluding Epic Deeds but wasn't satisfied. looks like you tweaked headers in the Epic Deeds page? that was part of what i misliked, i think, so better now. not quite there, but maybe i'll get it whipped into shape.
re: vol3 entry points ...
  • yes, Curunir is where v3.bk4.ch1 starts now, it's listed on the quest page linked. (i suppose that's a hint... the entry point list probably ought to be slightly more informative re: who and where.)
  • rope outside CG -- no, the rope does not function if you haven't completed v3.bk6 (GR epic), so v3.bk7 is only an entry point if you have another way in (rep for the gate, MC for the stableride in, a friend to port/summon, something). (if you start at bk4, do bks5-6 then use the rope to get to bk7, your entry point was bk4, not bk7.)
i can actually verify this at the time of this writing -- i have an 85 who's completed all of vol3 except bk6. he's already done bk7-9, so bk7 is definitely an entry point (in that completing bk6 is not a direct prerequisite for starting bk7) -- but he can't use the rope because he's not done with bk6. (he used the gate to the city to start bk7.)
i'd completely forgotten about the chronicle in rivendell; that's definitely good info to point out. a listing of repeatable quests at npcs near the various reflecting pools might be useful too. stuff gets added to the chronicle as you go along, doesn't it? so once you complete a session on the epic chain and turn in the quest it appears in the chronicle as redo-able. i'll look into that more.
and OMG TY that collapsible index of yours is brilliant. wonder if ... hmmm. ideas. ideas.

Chronicle add'l

Yes, the Chronicle of Events only reflects those sessions you have already completed... it's a lot like the video bits you can re-play when you first login.

(Movie Library on the right hand side of the Character selection screen.) Although those are unlocked account wide, while the Chronicles are by character.

I also just noticed that the Reflecting Pool listing is "confused."

  • The upper list contains several entries which are not in the lower list...
  • Angmar
  • Forochel
  • Moria
  • The Trollshaws
  • Forlaw
  • The verbiage on the lower list doesn't make sense... should either be "These quests" or "Some Quests" or ???
  • And why are some of the entries for Mirkwood labeled "Private Instances?"
  • The Evendim instances have their levels indicated --- something probably appropriate for all of them.

I see the difference: the lower list is quests at reflecting pools that don't have Sages. since the Angmar/Forochel/Moria/Trollshaws/Forlaw Sages are linked in the table, they didn't feel the need to list out those reflecting pools' offerings. but i don't think the Sage's quest list is identical to it's Reflecting Pool's offerings, so i don't particularly see a need to leave those areas out.
I may rework that page sometime (if someone else doesn't beat me to it) ... that seems like a great spot for spoiler-alert-style hidey boxes.
