Eoswyth

Eoswyth came from the lands of Rohan, a child of Horse-lords born to a most noble house. She began learning the Harp and drum at the age of thirteen and after hearing of Saruman's suspicious activities and the power of Mordor gathering, she set out to Eriador in search of places corrupted to soothe with her songs and Valour, but she was Always jealous of the beauty and immortality of the Elves, and seldom walked to Elvish places. When she met Sarathaela near Bree she was so striken of her beauty she was tempted to write a song until she realized how plain she looked standing next to such a graceful Elf. She made to run away but Sarathaela said, "Nay do not run away from me young one! I am but an Elf with Everlasting life which I do not willingly desire, and I have always looked to the Gift of men. I know all along that you envied my beauty, for Elves hear and see things more times greater than Men." And Eoswyth said, "How comes a tale of an Elf wishing for the Doom of our race? Have not thee grown wary of Middle-Earth?"

Sarathaela smiled, though she seemed still seemed cold and stern "No, it is my duty to protect the Free Peoples. Though my family is gone, I cannot rest or set sail while I know Middle-Earth is threatened." And when Eoswyth made no answer she laughed a laugh of Joy and cried, "Do not look so bewildered my child! I have seen two Ages of the world pass and I am still here and living. Behold! I am one of the Noldor in exile, and I shall abide here until I am slain or until my mission is fulfilled." And Eoswyth was filled with wonder for it seemed this high lady had grown and she had shrunk. At last she said, "My dear Lady, now I see the Elvish way of Living. Now I do not desire anymore to be of the firstborn." She smiled and went on, "Would thee be pleased enough to teach me elvish music?" And Sarathaela laughed, took Eoswyth by the hand, and so began their great Friendship.
