Template duplication

Quote: DancesInTrees
You appear to have duplicated Template:Worth  ;) DancesInTrees 01:20, 1 January 2008 (PST)

Sorry for the duplication. I sent the main difference between the 2 to the last editor of that worth template. I'll delete the value template -- no reason to have 2 primarily the same templates out there with the only difference being in word-wrap functionality. If the last editor of that template feels the word-wrap logic is appropriate for it, they can put the code in (I put the <span> syntax out there for them.. I'll review the templates out there a bit more carefully before making others :-p

Move a Quest request

Hi there, could you move the Quests you just added to Quest: Namespace pls? thank you --Xander 16:07, 6 April 2007 (PDT) Will do DancesInTrees 16:23, 6 April 2007 (PDT)

  • Try and remove your characters names from your information entry's in the future. --Blakborn 06:17, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
It's tedious enough entering the quest stuff as it is :P DancesInTrees 09:35, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
I'll correct your mistakes =), since my char get deleted =( Blakborn 13:44, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
aw *hugs* how come? Or do you mean beta char?
I will try and do them, but I'm not promising to catch them all DancesInTrees 10:46, 24 April 2007 (PDT)

Categories and Instances

Hi there, when you have a moment could you please check out my response here? Thanks :) --Fedaykin 12:30, 4 August 2007 (PDT)

quest level

Hello DancesInTress, Go check out Category talk:Quests

That looks good :). Would a one page summary of approximate locations for different levels still be useful? I think so (but then I just made it so I'm biased :D )DancesInTrees 00:30, 26 April 2007 (PDT)
Yeah we can do that.. Maybe it's best to make a Quest Category template to help us do the mix and match of categories. --Hinney 00:34, 26 April 2007 (PDT)

PC categories

i see you're adding new category =) have been thinking about it for a bit already but couldn't come up with good name... what do you think about creating two catogeries: Player Character by Kinship and Player Character by World/Server? --Xander 12:52, 26 April 2007 (PDT)

Yes that would be a good idea, would make for easier searching I think. DancesInTrees 12:55, 26 April 2007 (PDT)
ok I'll add those as subcategories =) my server is still down =( so i have again a bit time for adding stuff here =) --Xander 12:57, 26 April 2007 (PDT)

quest categories

content on regional quest category pages has grown a bit, how about removing it to separate page and linking from there to category page and the other way around? --Xander 01:30, 17 May 2007 (PDT)

I've been busy :D . Yes that's probably a good idea. I'll get on to it. DancesInTrees 07:59, 17 May 2007 (PDT)

Ok will do with the new ones Ves 13:13, 10 June 2007 (PDT)

Sorry

Hi, sorry about that. As you can see I'm new and I was only trying to help. Won't do it again :) Hurdygurdyman1234 13:58, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

Rotundo

Hmm, hadn't thought of that... Nah, I think our kin have problems enough keeping track of all the live ones ;)

Special Character Naming

Hi Dances, I noticed you moved a page in order to replace one of the characters with the appropriate special character. I had thought of this before for instance pages, but never noticed it done elsewhere so I just put the respective character from the standard alphabet. I'm curious now whether we want to name everything exactly as it appears in LOTR, or ignore special characters? Although I'm in favor of the former, I was thinking that it might make searching for the articles harder. For example, if I search for Carn Dum, would I be able to find the properly named article, which would be Carn Dûm? --Fedaykin 20:32, 22 September 2007 (PDT)

w00t!

Looks like little Emma is a big girl now (well, almost 50)! :D Glad to see you're getting up there and starting to run the high level content. I hope you're enjoying it, I noticed you did some nice work on the Glinghant instance. Ah, instancess..... my preciousss.... precioussssss... *runs back into hiding* --Fedaykin 21:10, 18 October 2007 (PDT)

Anarchie

I would like to put in a request for his ninja status, he's done a lot of good work on instances :) --Fedaykin 10:44, 18 November 2007 (PST)

chat meeting

hei there, DIT =)

I am suggesting a chat meeting over at contributor's corner, could you look over it and say what do you think about it? --Xander 02:25, 6 January 2008 (PST)

About those "big" images

Yup -- they're big ;-)

128px
<--- The size you see *80px*.
64px
32px
16px

The key to working with them is to scale them down to the size needed. I did this with the 80px versions on the page I put the comment on. I was rather cautious with how I assembled these (they're based upon the images from forums-old.lotro.com). They scale down really well and the frame I used is very "light weight" so scales very nicely down to tiny sizes. (it took me about 4 hours of testing and layout to see that they all scaled that well).

Here's a 32px image scaled the same way: -- the image Xander quoted as a better format. It scales down about equally as clean as the images I put up. It won't scale up that well as you can see.

Here's where I came up with the notion of scaling DOWN vs matching sizes... Category:Monster_Play_Icons -- they scale up poorly but scale down very nicely so.. if any viewing of them can be based upon a portrait then it's easier to work with.

Outside of just scaling down, the other problem is dealing with non-black backgrounds. As we've all encountered -- black is very forgiving to borders on graphics. White is harsh and very unforgiving -- pixel edges are nasty on "rounded" icons. Squared edges are easier to work with but, unbordered, they often appear are a bit "out of place".

My "solution" to this was:

| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |

See the problem when scaled to 32px? Notice that little black line? etc...

Thanks :) DancesInTrees 12:26, 31 January 2008 (PST)

Couple Requests

1.Could we please add a field in the quest template where we can notify if the quest is soloable, for a small fellowship or for a full fellowship? I can use the categories, but I don't think it's the best option. Ahrien 09:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

This is highly subjective: not all classes may be able to solo some small/full fellowship quests same way Burglars can (just an example)... --Xander 05:58, 27 February 2008 (PST)
I was assuming this was for the official classification. (Yes, my burg soloed bk 4 chs 2 & 5 - fun :D ) DancesInTrees 06:05, 27 February 2008 (PST)
Yes, I meant the "difficulty" of the quest according to the quest journal. As a matter of fact, there is even an icon for "small fellowship" quests, like Vow of Vengeance. --Ahrien 14:28, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

2. Could we have a t|imageph stub, like the one EQ2 wiki on wikia has. It's far more easy to upload an image for a quest reward than to fill the template. Granted an article is better, but we have tons of quests with broken links for the rewards. And for some quests of low level, just an image of the reward would suffice. --Ahrien 09:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I'll look into it... --Xander 05:58, 27 February 2008 (PST)
t|imageph is implemented feel free to use it now ;) --Xander 02:17, 28 February 2008 (PST)
Thank you, I just tried it and it works nicely! Check Shiny Mace. The weird thing is than when I try to use this new template, I get the following message: "Your edit includes new external links. To help protect against automated spam, please solve the simple sum below and enter the answer in the box" and I am forced to fill in a trivial sum. Not that I mind, but you may want to check if there's something amiss. --Ahrien 13:44, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

User:PrinceLaLa/Parmatûr

Thanks. Tried that, but with varying results. It displays the link instead of the name, it seems. Tried using pipe, but to no avail.

  • Ten minutes later* Whaddya know, it's working. Updated and refreshed and pipe is working. Thanks!

Dances... I just re-visited the Elves of Rivendell rep page that I spent a lot of time updating.. only to find that you restructed the Crafting Rewards section and simply left out all the repeatable quest rep rewards that I had previously populated. In addition, you replaced a working offsite link to Imlad Gelair's location with a link to an empty page.

Seriously I'm wondering why I am wasting my time adding useful information just to have it removed or replaced with blanks by you. I don't think I'll be back to check here for a long time as I also update other sites.. if you have a good reason why you did this and this site still wants my contributions you can email me olornole [at] lore.cc.
