Talk:Superior Farmland Access
Superior Farmland Access
I did my first farming on Superior Grain Farmland, without getting any special access. Is this access still required? Xyzzy (talk) 14:26, 26 December 2012 (EST)
- I don't know, but did you just farm in it at a lower tier or as an artisan farmer? Ifs its the latter then probably not.

- Actually the entire wording in the "notice" blurb is misleading, not completely wrong though. First of all, this page is about the "access" as a characteristic (ability I would say). Second, all recipes specifically reads about that requirement, so that line is plain wrong. So...I guess what the editor meant to say is that nothing hints about the requirement to go get this access to be able to continue levelling his character at the Expert tier.
- My suggestion is to remove that blurb at all "Superior X" characteristics pages, since those pages have nothing to with levelling nor being blocked. That info is found on all profession pages as well as at the Superior <Facility> pages, that would be enough.

- The problem folks are trying to address with some of these changes is that when you earn 360 crafting XP in the expert level, you stop gaining crafting XP (you keep on gaining regular XP). Unless you happen to see a quest ring pop up on a Novice crafting NPC nearby, you may not know that there is a quest you need to take. This caught me in the Esteldín crafting hall, standing beside the Expert Tailor NPC; I had to go to Bree to find a Novice Tailor! The Expert craft NPCs do not show a quest ring. Many new crafting facilities, such as the new ones in Bree, and e.g. farmland in Snowbourn, do not have a nearby dedicated crafting NPC, let alone a Novice NPC; you go to a Supplies NPC to get your vendored materials. If you have not encountered this feature of crafting before, you will be baffled as to why your crafting XP is not going up. You may end up loosing the crafting XP you would gain for processing some hard earned materials. I grab a calculator and figure out how many executions of a recipe to do, instead of hitting the Make All button, and possibly missing out of crafting XP.
- So, there is a serious problem looking for a solution. It is frustrating and inconvenient. It seems to generate at least weekly posts to the forums. I'm not sure how to address it, as I can't pretend to be a beginner. It is the beginners, though, that might have a better perspective on how to solve this issue.
- And, BTW, all superior facilities overlay non-superior facilities. You will see two effect icons, one for the non-superior facility and one for the superior facility, after you have access to the superior facility. If you don't have access to the superior facility, you will just see the non-superior facility effect. There are even a few odd spots where the overlay is not perfect, and you will be in range of the non-superior facility, but not the superior facility: there is a spot between the Expert Weaponsmith and the nearest forge in Thorin' Hall where I frequently end up having to wiggle to the right the get into the superior forge zone.

- That is in essence exactly what I wrote, RTC. And I have been there myself, once. Hence I and others have massaged that notice-blurb on the profession pages as well as the Superior <Facility> pages over and over. And those pages should indeed have that blurb.
- I removed the blurb from these "access" (characteristic) pages since it was misleading and misplaced, it was misplaced; the text was not 100% accurate in this context. I firmly believe in we should reduce the amount of out-of-context information on pages; over time we have been forgiving and allowed information about this and that on pages but should better be contained in its own context. This is an example of that, the "access" has indeed nothing to do with the no-XP-when-reaching-Expert-Proficiency level. Neither is the "access" in itself the blocking factor for not getting access to Artisan-tier recipes but the quests are which reward the character with this characteristic, and all these pages link to those quests. What I am trying to say is: keep relevant info where it belongs (being overly informative sometimes creates more confusion that intended).
- To make the now removed "blurb" accurate it should be completely rephrased, or simply removed. I am going to amend the only current sentence though, because it is a bit lame.
- Lastly, I doubt too many visitors actively search for these "access" pages. Rather they perhaps follow a link from the quest rewards section, or elsewhere. Don't you think ;-)

In reply to the original question. I believe this page is obsolete:
- The quest Quest:Crafting: Artisan Farmer no longer gives this access as a reward (for some odd reason I cannot even find the quest in my quest log but I am pretty sure I did it 1½ years ago and I see RTC updated the quest not long ago with removing this "access").
- This access is not in my list of passive skills, but workbench is there (my farmer is at tier 7).
Entering a superior field lists two icons, but those are the "effect" icons. I believe this "access" is removed from game, and the game simply looks for Expert Farmer Proficiency.
If nobody yells loudly we should use the Obsolete template on this page and follow up and correct the what-links-here pages. -- Zimoon 07:35, 4 January 2013 (EST)
