Suspect this quest is only available to those that start within the Shire? That is, Hobbits? -DewiMorgan (talk) 10:46, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
- I've seen this on my new characters and the "from xxx to Bree-town" quests are the same. They become available, but once you accept one (Shire/Gondamon) the other one is no longer accessible to you. This is like the fishing quests from the hobby masters, except these eliminate each other when you accept them and the fishing quests eliminate each other when you turn them in. FYI either one counts as a completed quest (complete quests in The Shire/Ered Luin deeds) for the zone it originates in. Kollins (talk) 13:58, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
- O.K. This got me curious, so I confirmed it. If you have accepted Gondamon to Bree-town, the bounders don't offer Shire to Bree-town, but as soon as you cancel the Gondamon quest, the bounders offer theirs. Same with Askel in Gondamon: He offers nothing if you have Shire to Bree-town as an active quest, but when you cancel it, he offers his quest up. Completing either quest also makes the other unavailable. This is all independent of the remote Quest:Destination:_Bree-land. Kollins (talk) 03:48, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- These are called "Vector Quests" -- they are used by Trubine to help folks figure out "What do I do next?" "Where do I go?" They are actually a recent addition to the Game.
- Basically, when Dunland was released (Update 4: Rise of Isengard) the structure of Questing became much more "ordered" (i.e. controlled). Quests are "locked' until you have completed certain other groups of quests. (Note that this is different from simple "pre-requisite" quests.) Historically, you could move into an area and simply visit all of the Gold Rings, collect a page full of quests and go complete them; then turn them in all at the same time. "Gold Rings" were "gated" simply by level back in those days.
- With the advent of Quest Sequencing in RoI, this became severely restricted. For example, if you visit Galtrev, without having completed the quests in Enedwaith, in particular portions of the Epic Quest line, there are no quests available. Now, typically you can stack about 5 or 6 (a quest tracker full) before you run out of rings. Then when you turn those in, you suddenly find more rings.
- You will discover that beginning with Category: The Great River Quests we have been using the Category pages to list the quests in sequence, and you will note the term "vector to xxx" used typically at the beginning and end of a Quest group.
- In the original Shadows of Angmar areas (Ered Luin and Bree) these vector quests have only been recently added and they don't have the same interlocking effect which they have later on.
- BTW, Quest Sequencing is a "modern version" of what us Model Railroaders would call and "Interlocking" -- i.e. a bunch of switches which are tied together so that you cannot throw a "wrong switch" and cause a train wreck!
