Walkthrough & Notes

The instance occurs in Glinting in Forgotten Pools in the Dunbog. At each location, you must kill several mobs before you are permitted to fish. The system will not recognize the pools as "bodies of water" until you have done so. After the mobs are dead, there will be a small glowing area where you can fish. You have a chance to fish up the item you need directly, or you may fish up an item that summons a monster which drops the target item. After fishing, be sure to quickly re-equip your weapons and/or shield before trying to fight any of the creatures. You will have a moment before it attacks, but it will spawn almost on top of you. At the first pool you have to kill several Gurgling Avancs and Snarly Avancs before you are permitted to fish. You may fish up an Avanc-tail, which summons Muck-romper. You must defeat it to obtain the soggy Relic of Strength. At the second pool you have to kill several Mossy Turtles and Menacing Turtles. You may fish up a Turtle Egg which summons Old Snappy. You must defeat him to obtain the muddy Seal of Patience. At the third pool you have to kill several Flickering Lights, Bright Lights, and Glowing Lights. You may fish up a Severed Hand, which summons Terrible Light. You must defeat it to obtain the glinting Relic of Inner Fire. At the fourth pool you have to kill several Little Bog-slugs, Bog-slugs and Ugly Bog-slugs. You may fish up a Slug Slime, which summons Slickslither. You must defeat it to obtain the worn Relic of Time. At the fifth pool you have to kill several Grasping Pool-lurkers, Bog-tanglers and Mossy Pool-lurkers. You may fish up a Lurker Moss, which summons Angler-strangler. You must defeat it to obtain the dripping Relic of Cunning. The rewards for performing these tasks is granted when turning in the main quest to Bron. You do not get to keep the relics you collected. When you first arrive in the instance, the first batch of monsters is present. Don't bother killing them now, as they will just respawn after you talk to Franis. Even though there is a rally circle near Franis at the starting point of the instance, if you are defeated, you may revive at the rally circle near the Fanged Lair just outside Galtrev. Talk to Bron to restart the instance (after you repair).

Bestowal dialogue 'Battles were once fought in these lands among great Men, <name>, and relics from the swords of the dead fell to the earth. In most places, the gems have long since been picked up by greedy fingers, but the pools of the Dunbog have been known to be rich with glinting treasures, lost in the deep mud. If you go to the Dunbog at night and try your hand at fishing there, you may pull up many great treasures that will improve your gear.' Background Many valuable relics of old were lost in a battle that took place long ago in the Dunbog. It is often said that night-time fishing excursions will produce ancient and wonderful gems that enhance powerful items. Objective 1 Talk to Franis to continue through the bog Franis is waiting for you in the Dunbog. You should speak with Franis. Franis: 'I have plenty of fishing gear on me, and I can teach you to fish if you should like. I can also pick a path through the mire...but I am no warrior.' Franis: 'I can help you pick a path to the best fishing pools, <name>. Just stay close and do not stray. I might not be able to help you fight, but I do have a knack for finding relics.' Franis says, "This way. Tread carefully!" Franis says, "Nasty beasts, the avanc...." Franis says, "You ought to clear them out before you try to start fishing here." Objective 2 Defeat the avanc at the first pool Avancs circle the pools in which a soggy Relic of Strength might be found. You should defeat the avanc so that you can fish in peace in the pools. The avanc have been slain; it is now safe to fish Objective 3 Fish up a soggy Relic of Strength A soggy Relic of Strength can likely be found in the nearby pools. You should use your fishing skill to try to snag a relic. Collected a soggy Relic of Strength Objective 4 Follow Franis to the turtle-guarded pools Franis is waiting for you to speak with him again. You should talk to Franis; his knowledge of the Dunbog will steer you to the most promising pools. Franis: 'Come along, <name> -- there is no time to waste! The next pool is this way. Oftentimes, there are rather menacing turtles in that area, but hopefully they will not be there.' Franis says, "Careful now! Great big snappers ahead -- turtles. They bite hard...." Franis says, "You don't want them chomping at your heels while you try to fish. Trust me." Objective 5 Defeat each of the turtles The turtles roam the pool that Franis led you to You should defeat the turtles that romp in this area so that you may fish in peace when all is done. The turtles are gone, and it is now safe to fish Objective 6 Fish up a muddy Seal of Patience A muddy Seal of Patience can likely be found in the nearby pools. You should use your fishing skill to try to snag a relic. You have collected a muddy Seal of Patience Objective 7 Talk to Franis Franis is waiting for you to speak with him again. You should talk to Franis; his knowledge of the Dunbog will steer you to the most promising pools. Franis: 'Let us keep moving, my friend. The night is not growing any younger, and I would like to dry my feet before the sun comes up.' Franis says, "Oh! Careful!" Franis says, "Elhudan -- bog lights! You cannot fish with those nasty glares trying to lull you beneath the waters...." Objective 8 Defeat all of the Elhudan around this pool Elhudan circle the pools in this area of the Dunbog, casting their fell light upon your wary faces. You should defeat all of the Elhudan in this area. Objective 9 Fish up a glinting Relic of Inner Fire A glinting Relic of Inner Fire can likely be found in the nearby pools. You should use your fishing skill to try to snag a relic. Collected a glinting Relic of Inner Fire Objective 10 Talk to Franis Franis is waiting for you to speak with him again. You should talk to Franis; his knowledge of the Dunbog will steer you to the most promising pools. Franis: 'I hope you are not tired! There are still more pools to fish from tonight. Follow me, and keep up!' Franis says, "Yech, slugs! You had best squash them." Objective 11 Defeat all of the slugs Slugs slither around the pools to which Franis has led you. You should defeat all of the slugs of this area before you attempt to fish here. You have defeated the slugs; you may now fish in peace Objective 12 Fish up a worn Relic of Time A worn Relic of Time can likely be found in the nearby pools. You should use your fishing skill to try to snag a relic. Collected a worn Relic of Time Objective 13 Talk to Franis Franis is waiting for you to speak with him again. You should talk to Franis; his knowledge of the Dunbog will steer you to the most promising pools. Franis: 'Are you ready to move to the next pool? Follow me closely, and I will lead you there now.' Franis says, "Careful! Bog-lurkers ahead." Franis says, "I will let you deal with them...." Objective 14 Defeat all of the bog-lurkers in this area Franis has led you to a pool that is surrounded by menacing bog-lurkers. You should defeat all of the bog-lurkers so that you may fish in peace. Franis says, "You are almost done! You just need to fish up one more relic." The bog-lurkers have been cleared away, and you may now fish in peace Objective 15 Fish up a dripping Relic of Cunning A dripping Relic of Cunning can likely be found in the nearby pools. You should use your fishing skill to try to snag a relic. Collected a dripping Relic of Cunning Objective 16 Talk to Franis Franis is waiting for you to speak with him again. You should talk to Franis; his knowledge of the Dunbog has steered you successfully to the most promising pools. Franis: 'You are quite the fisher-<race>, <name>! And a warrior also -- I would be happy to scout these parts with you any time you want it. You have quite a talent for hooking the lost valuables. I hope your catch will be of great use to you.'
