Cannoth is just inside the Gath Daeroval instance, but this quest can be completed without completing the instance. Entrance to Instance is discovered on the Citadel of Night level. If you have tracking, the instance entrance is next to the spawn location for Curongul, a signature cargul wraith, level 128.

Quest Text

Bestowal dialogue 'There have been many worrying disappearances near Achathras, east of this location. Cannoth journeyed in that direction to scout a nearby pass, and we are waiting for word. Aye, we wait still, and longer than we expected. Has he run into trouble, or has some trouble run into him? Find him and learn what happened, if you can.' Background Cannoth was sent to investigate the disappearances of several allies, but now Cannoth himself has also vanished. Objective 1 Find Cannoth east of Barad Arthir Locate Cannoth east of Barad Arthir, the Lofty Watch-fort, and learn what happened. Cannoth: 'Your arrival is well-timed, for things are worse here than I feared! Through this archway, a path winds upward along the mountainside. There lies Gath Daeroval, the Shadow-roost. This place is home to Khatlob, the massive, voracious brood-mother of the roost. At least, so say the Orcs; it sounds from their talk that she laid the eggs from which sprang the terrible flying mounts ridden by the Witch-king and the rest of the Nazgûl. 'She is not the only danger within. The lower reaches are said to be guarded by Khúrthak the Rent, a great Olog that has long stood guard over this area... and over Khatlob. It sounds to me as if he is both her jailor and her protector. The Orcs say he suffered a grievous injury from her claws, and now fears to get too near. 'Such beasts that Khatlob bears can work great evil upon our forces in Imlad Morgul, and elsewhere. When you are prepared, you should follow the path and put an end to the brood-mother and her terrible spawn!'
