Solution
The answer is the pond (water hazard) just outside the Scrag-dells. The ewe refers to the quest Sheep Theft. The old goblin refers to Golfimbul, whose death in the nearby Greenfields is said (according to Hobbit folklore) to have inspired the game of golf.
