The Ghursâti are guardian-spirits revered by the Shoghór, the original settlers of Shagâna, coming south from Jarmát by crossing the great desert. It was the seven Ghursâti who gave Cúridwan her purpose in protecting Shagâna and its people. They are likened to the Valar and may be a form of Ainur.
The Ghursâti are seven in number:
- Ísman, the Sky-master, who lit the stars for the Shoghór to show them the way.
- Jarângar, the Water-friend, who brings healing to the people of Shagâna, and wards away the much-feated drought.
- Shin-sâmet, the All-shaper, who fashions the plants that grow beside the rivers and the animals that drink from the oases.
- Zangûr, the Walker of the Wilds, who knows all the paths of the mountains and valleys, as well as the wild flowers of the hillside and the secrets of the blossoming forests.
- Bâkhlas, the Doom-hand, is feared and respected by the Shoghór nomads, for the domain of Bâkhlas is death.
- Arâmkal, the Soothing Word, is better loved, and brings rest and dreams to the people.
- Garândi, the Swift One, endures all hardship to emerge triumphant and laughing at the end of suffering.
The Ghursâti stand in opposition to the demonic figure Makhâl, but his name is spoken only in unwilling whispers.
