Notes on the categorization of effects
- The ultimate goal of this category is to no longer have loose effect pages in it. All effect pages should in the end fit in the subcategories. If you are unsure of what category an effect page should fit into, you can leave it in the effects category for someone else to sort. Of course, some effect pages can be included in multiple categories.
- Negative & positive qualities of effects (aka "buffs" and "debuffs") were chosen to be ignored for the categorization of effects due to practical implications. Instead, effects are sorted by type. Considerations:
- When only sorted by negative/positive qualities, the Effect category would be divided only into two categories with a huge number of pages in each, defeating the point of categorization; when sorted both by negative/positive qualities and type, the effect categorization tree would become very complicated and impossible to overview.
- Many effect pages are incomplete and it is impossible to tell whether they are buffs or debuffs.
- Whether something is considered a buff or debuff depends on the point of view. Categorization by negative/positive qualities would conflict with monster play.
- Sorting by type makes for a streamlined categorization with Category:Effect Icons. This way, effect icons can often help determine the categorization of effect pages, and the other way around.
