Blue Mutiny

The Blue Mutiny, also called the Scholars' Revolt or the Second Blue Mutiny, was a popular uprising in the city of Zajâna that overthrew most of the rule of the Empire of Ordâkh and shattered Ordâkhai control of the city. It marked the end of more than a century of foreign domination and resulted in the division of the city between the free districts of Zajâna and the Ordâkh-held quarters of Jajân, centered on the Hall of Lajór.
More than one hundred and twenty years before the end of the Third Age, Zajâna was conquered by Ordâkh and renamed Jajân, becoming a puppet fief ruled beneath the distant authority of the Hûl. Governance within the city fell to Ordâkh-aligned institutions, most notably the Jewelled Council, while an Ordâkhai garrison enforced imperial authority. The fall of Sauron and the death of Emperor Kâlach Hûl at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields weakened Ordâkh's power across the north. Many Ordâkhai soldiers were drawn away to conflicts elsewhere, leaving the garrison in Jajân diminished and increasingly isolated. At the same time, the city's long tradition of scholarship, civic councils, and resistance to enforced worship fostered growing unrest among the Shagâni population.
In this climate, the people of Jajân rose against their occupiers after the defeat of Ordâkhai command in an event remembered as the Blue Mutiny. Zajâni scholars, citizens, and allied factions seized control of the western districts of the city and pushed eastward, engaging the remaining Ordâkhai forces in widespread street fighting. The advance was halted near the city's center by the surviving garrison and entrenched Ordâkh loyalists. Fires and destruction during the fighting physically and politically split the city in two, a division that persists to the present day.
Following the Blue Mutiny, the liberated western portion of the city reclaimed the name Zajâna and came under the rule of the Doorwards of Zajâna, a council of five governing as equals. Trade and scholarship were gradually re-established, and the city resumed its role along the Great Road connecting Umbar with the southern lands. The Ordâkh-aligned district retained the name Jajân and fell under a reconstituted Triumvirate loyal to Ordâkh, drawn from the remnants of the Jewelled Council. Although Ordâkh control was greatly reduced, it was not eliminated. The Ordâkhai withdrew either into the Hall of Lajór or regrouped outside the city at Jag Golód, from which they continue to plot a reconquest of Zajâna. The Blue Mutiny remains a defining event in Zajâni history, symbolizing both the city's resilience and the continuing struggle between local self-rule and imperial ambition.
