Dakhla-Jâna is the great bay of Umbar, marking the point where the waters of the Ikorbân river widen and mingle with the sea. At its northern reaches, the river’s flow slows into the broad wetlands of the Ilmakhâsh marsh, whose channels and reed beds gradually give way to open saltwater as the bay expands southward.

The bay curves around and shelters the city of Umbar Baharbêl, forming its principal harbor and anchorage. Calm inner waters and natural protection from prevailing winds made Dakhla-Jâna an ideal site for maritime trade, shipbuilding, and naval mustering throughout Umbar’s history. The shoreline is indented with smaller inlets and quays, allowing vessels to dock close to the city while remaining shielded from the open sea.

To the north, Dakhla-Jâna is enclosed by the mountainous promontory of the Cape of Umbar, whose headlands define the bay’s mouth and provide a natural barrier against storms rolling in from the west. To the south, the bay is bounded by the long, rising coasts of Umbar itself, where cliffs and sandy shores gradually merge with the broader coastline beyond. Together, these boundaries give the bay its distinctive enclosed shape and strategic importance.

As both a geographic threshold and a maritime gateway, Dakhla-Jâna marks the transition from inland waterways to the open ocean, serving as the meeting place of river traffic, coastal shipping, and deep-sea voyages.
