Aragorn I was the fifth Chieftain of the Dúnedain, succeeding his father in T.A. 2319. He was a descendant of both Isildur and Anárion, and an ancestor of Aragorn II.
Life and Chieftainship
Little is known of Aragorn I's life or rule, as his chieftainship fell during the Watchful Peace, a time when the Rangers of the North laboured in secrecy and few records were kept. Following the death of his father, Aragorn assumed leadership of the Dúnedain and continued their quiet guardianship of Eriador.
It is believed that, like his forebears, Aragorn led the Rangers in small battles and skirmishes to keep evil creatures at bay and to protect the Free Peoples of the North, though no great wars marked his brief rule.
Death and Succession
After ruling for only eight years, Aragorn I was slain in T.A. 2327, killed by savage wolves while travelling in Eriador, a land where such dangers long remained a constant threat.
