/alias Reference Guide

The /alias command allows players to create a shorthand reference to a longer string of text to be output to a chat channel. An alias can contain chat commands, emote commands, or other aliases. Aliases can not be used to activate spells or abilities.

Aliases can be used to greatly reduce the amount of typing required to communicate with other players.

  • Aliases are not account wide and only apply to the character they were programmed under.

Alias Examples

The basic structure of an alias is:   /alias <;ID> <TextString>

Each alias you create needs to have a unique ID. You can not have two aliases with the same ID, such as ;greeting -- you would need to create separate aliases with unique IDs such as ;greeting1 , ;greeting2 , and so on. When typing an alias ID into the chat bar, any text you enter before or after the alias ID will be displayed along with the alias's text string in the /say channel.


A basic alias would be one used as a simple greeting. Enter the following into the chat line:

/alias ;hi Hello there!

You should see the confirmation in your chat window, such as:
Alias added: ";hi" = "Hello there!"

After successfully creating the alias, you can type the ID in the chat bar.

Type ;hi then press Enter.

You should see the text string output to your chat window. The default is to the /say channel.

As usual, anything you /say will be displayed in the chat window of all nearby players. Please be considerate to others while working through these examples by finding an isolated location.

You can specify the chat channel you want your text string to output to, such as the Kinship channel (/k), Fellowship channel (/f), LookingForFellowship channel (/lff), Advice channel (/advice), Out of Character channel (/ooc), etc. by beginning your text string with the appropriate channel's slash command.


/alias ;ty4f /F Thank you all for the fellowship.

The above command will create the alias ;ty4f which will send the message, Thank you all for the fellowship., to the Fellowship channel. If you are not in a fellowship, using this alias will trigger the error message: You are not in a fellowship.


AFK Example

/alias ;afk /K I will be Away From Keyboard for a while.

The above command will create the alias ;afk which will send the message I will be Away From Keyboard for a while. to the Kinship channel (/K).


When typing an alias ID into the chat bar that includes a chat command such as /K, any text you enter *after* the alias ID will also be displayed after the alias's text string in the specified channel.


Modifying the ;afk alias example from above, we can do the following:

/alias ;afk /K I will be Away From Keyboard for

The above command will create the alias ;afk which will output the message I will be Away From Keyboard for to the Kinship channel. The text string was left open-ended so that you can add custom text when using the alias.

Typing   ;afk 2 minutes   would add the   2 minutes   to the alias's text string, outputting I will be Away From Keyboard for 2 minutes to the Kinship channel.

Typing   ;afk a while   would output: I will be Away From Keyboard for a while.


Note: Entering text before an alias ID that includes a chat command will nullify the chat command and will output as a /say message. Therefore, using the example above, if you type   Guys ;afk 1min   the Guys part would nullify the chat command /K inside the alias text string and output everything to the /say channel.


LFF Example

/alias ;lff /lff Champion LFF for

The above command would create the alias ;lff which would output the text string   Champion LFF for   to the LookingForFellowship channel. Once this alias is created, you could type the following into the chat bar:
;lff Book 2.4
This would output   Champion LFF for Book 2.4   to the LookingForFellowship channel.


You can use an alias within an alias to create a "Looking for Fellowship" alias that includes your current level. Since your level changes frequently, it would save time to create a small alias with just your level and use it inside the main LFF alias above. The smaller alias would be easier to re-type rather than retyping the entire LFF alias every time your character levels up.

/alias ;lvl 16

This creates the  ;lvl  alias which only contains the text string: 16. If you typed ;lvl by itself, it would output only "16" to the /say channel -- but we are going to use it inside the main LFF alias.

/alias ;lff /lff ;lvl Minstrel LFF for

This creates the alias  ;lff  which will output the contents of the  ;lvl  alias followed by the rest of the text string to the LookingForFellowship channel.

Typing ;lff The Hideout would output  16 Minstrel LFF for The Hideout  to the LookingForFellowship channel.

Then, later when your character reaches level 17, you would just edit (re-type) the ;lvl alias to change it to "17".


Custom Emote Examples

You can create custom emotes with the /alias command. The custom alias emotes can be either text-only, or also include an existing emote command to trigger an emote animation.

Text-Only Emote

/alias ;pie /emote is in the mood for a fresh pie.

The above command will create the alias ;pie  which will output:
<YourName> is in the mood for a fresh pie.

(You don't have to type your own name when using the /emote command.)

Animated Emote

You can trigger an emote animation in an alias by using that emote's chat command, such as /bow  as well as add customized emote text that will be displayed at the same time the animation is triggered - replacing the default emote text associated with the emote animation.

/alias ;bow /bow bends a knee and bows gracefully.

The above command will create the alias  ;bow  which will trigger the bow animation, and output the text emote:
<YourName> bends a knee and bows gracefully.


Pre-defined Aliases

There are two pre-defined aliases that are automatically and always in the game. These pre-defined aliases can not be changed or deleted.

  • ;target = <The name of your current selection>
  • ;loc = <Your location coordinates>

You can use these pre-defined aliases within a custom alias.


Using ;target in an Alias

Using the first alias example from above, we can add ;target to include the name of your current selected target (NPC, mob, item) in the text string.

/alias ;hi Hello there ;target!

Now, if you click on Lizbeth Honeymeade and type ;hi then press Enter, it will output: Hello there Lizbeth Honeymeade!

If you click on the mailbox and type ;hi it will output: Hello there Mailbox!


Note: If you do not have a selected target, using this alias would output Hello there ;target! because the pre-defined ;target alias expands itself to the name of your current target, however, if you have no target selected, it will display ;target.


Using ;loc in an Alias

Just like using the pre-defined alias ;target, you can use ;loc in an alias. It is recommended to create an alias that sends your ;loc information to yourself as a /tell message.

/alias ;myloc /tell YourName ;loc

(Replace YourName with the name of your character)

Now you can type ;myloc and it will send your location information as a /tell to yourself. Because it uses the /tell system, it will display twice, such as:

You tell YourName, '28.6S, 49.4W'
YourName tells you, '28.6S, 49.4W'


Creating a Quickslot Icon for an Alias

After you have created an alias, you can assign it as an icon on one of your quickslot bars, enabling you to click on the icon to trigger the alias rather than typing the alias ID in the chat bar.

The command structure to asign an alias to a quickslot bar is:   /alias shortcut <;ID> <slot#>

The command to assign the alias ;myloc to the main tool bar on the first Quickslot (far left) would be:

/alias shortcut ;myloc 1

Once an alias has been assigned to a tool bar Quickslot, it can then be dragged from one slot to another just the same as any regular Skill or Item icon.

To remove an alias from a tool bar, drag the alias icon to the main game space and release the mouse button (as if you were destroying an item from your bag). This removes the icon from the Quickslot bar, but does not delete the actual alias. To delete aliases, use the /alias remove command, such as: /alias remove ;myloc

Quickslot Numbering

When using the /alias shortcut command, the slots are numbered from 1 to 72, with the slots on the main toolbar (the bar with the menu icons and bag icons) numbered (from left to right) 1 to 12. The slots on Bar 1 are numbered (from left to right) 13 to 24, the slots on Bar 2 are numbered from 25 to 36, and so on.

Alias Command Parameters

To view all of the command parameters in-game, type /alias then press the Enter key.

usage: /alias < ;<new alias string> <replacement string > | add ;<new alias string> <replacement string> |

/alias ;<new alias string> <replacement string>
 : Adds a new alias to the table
/alias add ;<new alias string> <replacement string>
 : Adds a new alias to the table.
/alias remove ;<unwanted alias string>
 : Removes an unwanted alias from the table.
/alias shortcut ;<alias string> <shortcut location>
 : Adds a shortcut to an existing alias to your shortcut bar.
/alias list : Prints all of your alias information.
/alias clear : Clears your alias table.
/alias clearlist : Same as clear.

Editing & Deleting

You can edit the text string of an existing alias by re-typing the entire alias, essentially over-writing the existing alias ID's text string.

Typing  /alias ;hi Hello There!  creates the alias  ;hi  with the text string of Hello There!. If you then type
/alias ;hi Hello World! you edit (or replace) the text string, changing it from Hello There! to Hello World!.


You can delete aliases entirely using:   /alias remove <;ID>

/alias remove ;hi


Quick Reference Example

This is a quick reference for players wanting only to create the ;loc alias and assign it to a tool bar slot quickly.

Step 1: Create the Alias

/alias ;myloc /tell YourName ;loc

Replace YourName with your character's name.


Step 2: Assign the Alias to a Quickslot

/alias shortcut ;myloc 1

This will assign the ;myloc alias to the main tool bar on Quickslot #1 (far left). You can then drag it to the desired Quickslot.

Note that step 2 will overwrite whatever was in Quickslot #1, and leave it empty. You might want to drag the current content of Quickslot #1 to the desired Quickslot before performing step 2, so that the drag in step 2 will swap the content of the two quickslots.
