Toads
Toads are the uglier cousins of frogs, and are found in many wet or swampy areas. They also live in dark places, and there are rumors of huge toads in some of these places. It is even said some are big enough to eat a Hobbit or Dwarf whole in one gulp.
They can be poisonous and be of some danger to travelers.
