: The Dale-lands cover the lands between Erebor and Esgaroth below the Lonely Mountains. The township of Dale was destroyed when Smaug descended from the Dwarf-kingdom of [[Erebor]], The Lonely Mountain. The men of the Dale-lands then dwelt on the Long Lake and were known as Lake-men until the township of Dale was re-founded by Bard, the descendant of its lords, 80 years later.
