Description

Physical Description: Cadfael is a strong built elf with the "pretty boy" complexion. His hair is blonde and shoulder-length with complimenting blue eyes that can see further than any man or dwarven eyes. The kinship he travels with frequently makes fun of him for his long hair and girlish looks. Although he may seem feminine, his sexual preferance, muscles, strength, and lack of mercy for the enemy in battle prove otherwise. In his home of Lothlorien, he trained his archery skills but can deal equal damage with a melee weapon, preferrably an axe, which is very rare for a hunter. He bares many scars over his chest and back from his long life.

Personality Description: Cadfael is from Lothlorien, the fabled golden woods whose elves dwell high in the mallorn-trees and are ruled by Celeborn, wisest of the eldar of Middle-Earth, and the Lady Galadriel. He can be very witty at times but most of his wit lies in insulting those who deserve or those who verbally attack him without provocation. He is very helpful to those who need it...usually. He often feels it necessary to venture away from his kinship and meditate by himself for periods of time, although being with them brings out the party in him. He is often drawn into drinking contests, Lute contests, or constant drunk partying at an inn.

History

Although Cadfael was born in Lothlorien, his bloodline comes from that of Valinor, the Undying Lands. Valinor is the home of the Valar (singular Vala), angelic beings sometimes mistakenly called "gods" by Men in the beginning of Middle-earth, their angelic servants the Maiar, and Elves. The sea to the west of the island was called Ekkaia, or the encircling sea; it surrounded both Valinor and Middle-earth.

Each of the Valar has their own region of the land where they reside and alter things to their desire. The Mansions of Manwë and Varda upon the highest mountain of the Pelóri, Taniquetil. The two are the most powerful spirits, also married. Yavanna, the Vala of nature, growth, and harvest, resides in the Pastures of Yavanna in the south of the island. Nearby are the Mansions of Aulë the smith Vala who created the Dwarves, who is spouse of Yavanna. Oromë, the Vala of the hunt, lives in the Woods of Oromë to the north-east of the pastures. Nienna, the lonely Valie of sorrow and endurance, lives in the far west of the island where she spent her days crying about all the evil of the world, looking out to sea. Just south of Nienna's home and to the north of the pastures there are the Halls of Mandos. Mandos is the Vala of the afterlife. Also living in the Halls of Mandos is his spouse Vairë the weaver, who weaves the threads of time. To the east of the Halls of Mandos is the Isle of Estë, which is situated in the middle of the lake of Lórellin which is in turn to the north of the Gardens of Lórien (not to be confused with Lothlórien in Middle-earth). Estë and Lórien (also known as Irmo) are husband and wife.

To the east of Valinor once stood the Two Trees of Valinor, Telperion and Laurelin, before the gates of Valimar, the capital of Valinor, where the Valar gather, and the Maiar spirits and the Vanyar elves live. Further east is the Calacirya, the only easy pass through the Pelóri, a huge mountain range fencing Valinor on three sides, created to keep out Morgoth. In the pass is the city Tirion, built on a hill, the city of the Noldor Elves. By the shore of the sea, north-east of Tirion, is the Teleri Elves' port Alqualondë. In the extreme northeast, beyond the Pelóri, was the Helcaraxë, a vast ice sheet that, in the beginning before Valinor was risen after the fall of Númenor into the sky to prevent people from travelling there, joined the two continents of Aman and Middle-earth. Also, for a time before the ruin of Númenor, a long chain of small islands called the Enchanted Isles ran the full length of the east coast to the continent. These were erected to prevent anyone, mortal or immortal, from reaching the land by sea.

After the destruction of Númenor, the Undying Lands were removed from Arda so that Men could not reach them and only the Elves could go there by the Straight Road and in ships capable of passing out of the Spheres of the earth. By special permission of the Valar, the Hobbits Frodo Baggins and Bilbo Baggins were also permitted to go to Valinor. Some believe that Samwise Gamgee and Gimli the Dwarf were also permitted to go there.

Bio

Cadfael was born in the golden forests of Lothlorien, He is the oldest of four, the rest of whom are now deceased, except for the youngest, his sister Saellanor. in the times when Sauran was vieing for dominion over Middle Earth. He and his brothers took part in the Battle of Dagorlad to silence the evil. His two brothers were killed in this battle. When the evil had passed, he made the Refuge at Edhelliond his home until recently when the Dourhand Dwarves attacked and turned it into ruin. While escaping, he noticed an elf woman caught under the rubble. He rescued her and brought her into Thorin's Gate with him. The relationship with this woman, named Tamaria, quickly grew into love as they travelled together. Cadfael and Tamaria are currently engaged and plan to wed in Rivendell.

Personal Memoirs

  • Year of Birth - 3334 S.A.
  • March, 3369 - I am beginning my training as an archer, although I do not prefer bows, I feel i must become proficient in as many forms of weaponry as possible for there is an evil lurking in the wind.
  • January, 3371 - I have finished my studies in both melee and ranged weapons.
  • February, 3384 - There are fell voices and cries of pain on the wind. I fear that the stories of this "One Ring" are turning out to be true.
  • March, 3385 - I met a hobbit for the first time today. Eriador has been invaded by Sauron's forces and the inhabitants have fled and we have agreed to give them shelter. No word from the dwarves.
  • July, 3391 - The war between the race of Man and Sauron has begun. It appears that hope is running out for Middle-Earth.
  • October, 3398 - We, amoung other Elf cities have agreed to aid the race of Man in their fight against Sauron. I am being sent to the land of Rohan, I can't wait to have my first battle.
  • December, 3398 - My first battle was grueling and there was much blood shed and many lives lost. Many of the friends I trained with have been slain.
  • April, 3413 - I have not been able to add more entries because the fighting has grown more intense and common. Wargs scout daily and orcs soon follow.
  • November, 3429 - Elrond has meet with Elendil and Isildur. It appears we are going to form a massive army as a last resort and march on Mount Doom.
  • January, 3434 - We are beginning our march on Mount Doom. Durin has joined us from the halls of Khazad-dûm.
  • September, 1, THIRD AGE OF MIDDLE EARTH - The battle has ended in our favor. Sauron has been defeated and the ring has passed out of existence. The great alliance has ended and the world is at peace. Many lives have been lost to attain it. Among those lost are my brothers, Valandil and Súrion. Their deaths were not in vain.
  • December, 13 - Me and a few others are going to live in Edhellond. I will no longer be adding to these memoirs unless I feel necessary.

  • November, 3014 - The Dourhand Dwarves have destroyed Edhellond, my home, and have slain thousands without provocation. I never trusted dwarves to begin with but these particular kind are bandits. On my escape, I formed a fellowship with a few survivors: Bors(Man), Tristan(Man), Gawain(Dwarf), Galahad(Man), and Daegodae(Man). The Dourhands were not directly targetting elves since there were men and other dwarves which fought against them. We rescued an elf girl from a collapsing building. Her name is Tamaria. We are taking her with us to Celondim
  • January, 3015 - We have arrived in Celondim, soon we will make for Bree. The rumors about the "One Ring" returning are true. Nazgûl have been spotted in the Ered Luin. Though we have just met, i feel closer to Tamaria, and she seems fond of me.
  • January, 3015 - We have arrived in Buckland. I feel as though i have developed some sort of feelings for Tamaria, maybe love. I do not know what she thinks in return and I am too nervous to say anything about it.
  • January, 3015 - The fellowship has gone ahead to Bree-Town and i finally told Tamaria how i feel and she felt the same. We are currently engaged and plan to wed in Rivendell.
  • February, 3015 - I have left my fellowship to press on. I do not do this out of ill feeling, as no ill feelings were left with me or my previous fellowship. They wanted to stay in Bree and I had more work to do. Tamaria and I have agreed to press on toether. I will miss them dearly.
  • February, 3015 - I met a fellowship in the Bree-town auction hall that spoke of leaving for other lands. I asked to go with them and they graciously accepted another two members into their kinship. We will leave for the North Downs in a few days.
  • March, 3015 - The North Downs is a vast area with much peril. There are numerous orc and warg camps throughout. I don't know how long we will be staying here.
  • June, 3015 - We have explored the North Downs and slain many enemies. I have grown to befriend everyone in my kinship, even though there are some dwarves. We have fought many battles and saved each other's lives many times in this wretched place.
  • June, 3015 - We have arrived in Bree and the army of the Free Peoples of Middle-Earth have asked me to join their ranks as a Recruitment Officer with the rank of Brigadeir General. My old friends have joined as well. Tristan, Gawain and I will be leaving for Celondim to retrace our steps and recruit experienced warriors for our cause. I will be leaving Tamaria in Bree while I am gone.
  • June, 3015 - The three of us have arrived in Celondim once again. We were told to recruit 4 elves here. A master hunter, a master lore-master, a skilled tailor, and a provisioner.
  • July, 3015 - All of the four recruits willingly joined. It seems there are many people who wish to somehow stand against the dark lord. We are passing through Duillond, where we will hopefully acquire an elven strategist. From there we will make our way to Thorin's Hall.
  • July, 3015 - We have just arrived at Thorin's Gates. We recruited a master strategist in Duillond and sent him to Bree with the other recruits. Here we are looking for the three dwarven lords and whatever troops they can offer us.
  • July, 3015 - We have recruited the dwarf lords into our ranks: two champions, one guardian, one metalsmith/champion, and one armsman/hunter.
  • July, 3015 - We will pass through the Shire in search of four expert burglers. There is a meeting planned in Bree for all the recruits and any Free Peoples army member in the area when we arrive.
