Background

You have begun a short training tutorial at the Harwick Stables to teach you how to control your war-steed.

Objective 1

Begin your instruction in how to ride a war-steed by speaking with Seoca.

Seoca: 'Greetings <name>, I see you've earned yourself a fine steed of Rohan on which to ride forth. Finely done!
'Yet steel yourself well - for this is no quiet mare, but a noble mount trained in the ways of war!
'You'll find them spirited, and in some ways more difficult to ride than your prior mounts, but you will find that they possess the strength and stamina to do battle.'

Objective 2

  • Mount your war-steed near the outer starting line

Mount your war-steed near the outer track starting line.

Seoca says, "Ok <name>, mount up on your war-steed here, and lets get started."

Objective 3

  • Laps Completed (0/2)

Follow the direction of Seoca as you circle the tourney field and learn to control your steed.

You must make two full circuits of the outer track in order to proceed.

Seoca says, "Now give me two circuits of the track. Take it as slow as you like while you get used to it."
Begin Lesson One
(After the first lap)
Seoca says, "Good! Keep going <name>!"
(After the second lap)
Seoca says, "Stop! That is fine! Come with me and we will start the next course."
Course Complete

Objective 4

Speak with Seoca.

Seoca: 'Right, easy is it not? Well, now we will make things a bit more interesting.
'Next up is the flag course.'
-- Tip: This course is not timed, but if you miss a flag, the flag count will restart on your next lap.
-- Tip: If you find the flags are too closely spaced to pass through at full speed, try slowing down a little.
-- Tip: Using the mouse to turn allows finer control than the keyboard.

Objective 5

  • Blue Flags Passed (0/6)

Run the flags course as directed by Seoca.

On the first round, you must pass through the blue flags.

On the second round, you must pass through the red flags.

On the third round, you must pass through both sets of flags at once.

Tip: This course is not timed, but if you miss a flag, the flag count will restart on your next lap.

Tip: If you find the flags are too closely spaced to pass through at full speed, try slowing down a little.

Tip: Using the mouse to turn allows finer control than the keyboard.

Begin Lesson Two
Ride through the Blue Flags
Seoca says, "Ok, we have set up a series of flags along the course this time."
Seoca says, "You must ride through each set of flags as you round the track."
Seoca says, "If you miss a flag, don't worry -- just continue around the track and we will start again."
Seoca says, "Line up at the start, and begin whenever you are ready!"
Blue Flags Passed!
Seoca says, "Great work! Keep moving! The red flags are next!"

Objective 6

  • Red Flags Passed (0/5)

Run the flags course as directed by Seoca.

On the first round, you must pass through the blue flags.

On the second round, you must pass through the red flags.

On the third round, you must pass through both sets of flags at once.

Red Flags Passed!
Seoca says, "Great! Now a challenge. Run all the flags this time!"

Objective 7

  • All Flags Passed (0/11)

Run the flags course as directed by Seoca.

On the first round, you must pass through the blue flags.

On the second round, you must pass through the red flags.

On the third round, you must pass through both sets of flags at once.

Important: This course is not timed, but if you miss a flag, the flag count will restart on your next lap.

Tip: If you find the flags are too closely spaced to pass through at full speed, try slowing down a little.

Tip: Using the mouse to turn allows finer control than the keyboard.

Flag Course Completed!
Seoca says, "Whoa there, <name>. Enough!"
Seoca says, "That is the spirit! You have the hang of the flags now."
Seoca says, "Come over here and we will prepare the next course."

Objective 8

Speak with Seoca to begin the next training course.

Seoca: 'Well, if you could handle that, this next part should be a breeze, right?
'Time to work on jumping <name>!'

Objective 9

  • Fences Jumped (0/4)

Jump each of the fences as you ride around the track.

If you miss a fence, your count will reset when you cross the start line and you can keep going.

Seoca says, "So far so good. Now for the jump trials."
Seoca says, "This is not so different from what you are used to on your northern horses."
Seoca says, "Just remember to slow down a bit if you are having trouble lining up your jumps."
Seoca says, "Line up and begin when you are ready."
Begin Lesson Three
Lap Completed!
Seoca says, "Well run! I have added more fences for your final lap!"

Objective 10

  • Fences Jumped (0/6)

Jump each of the fences as you ride around the track.

If you miss a fence, your count will reset when you cross the start line and you can keep going.

Fence Course Completed!
Seoca says, "Enough! You have proven your mettle on the riding course, <name>. Come over here."

Objective 11

Speak with Seoca near the Jousting Course in the middle of the field.

Seoca: 'Ok, now we'll work on your combat skills.'
'Use the speed of your mount to keep you out of harms way, while delivering devastating attacks against your enemies.'
-- Tip: Queue your attacks before you reach your target.
-- Tip: Slowing down before a turn lets you turn much faster.

Objective 12

  • Blows Landed (0/10)

This is the combat skill course.

Ride back and forth between the target dummies at either end of the field, striking each in turn.

-- Tip: Queue your attacks before you reach your target.

-- Tip: Slowing down before a turn allows you to turn much faster.

Seoca says, "Now comes your combat training."
Seoca says, "When fighting from horseback, try to stay in motion!"
Seoca says, "If you find yourself fighting from a standstill, you will be better off on foot."
Seoca says, "But keeping yourself mobile works best to limit your enemy's opportunity to attack you."
Seoca says, "Just as importantly, as your mount races across the plains its Fury will build, enhancing your blows."
Seoca says, "Some of your most powerful combat skills may only be used if your mount's Fury is near its peak."
Seoca says, "I have set up target dummies at either end of the field to test your skills upon."
Seoca says, "You need to ride back and forth between them, striking each in turn."
Seoca says, "Now go! Show me what you have!"
Begin Lesson Four
(After 5 blows)
Seoca says, "Excellent! Just a few more passes!"
Course completed!
Seoca says, "Great work, <name>! Come on over here."
Seoca says, "Remember to keep moving in battle, never let yourself be trapped and overwhelmed."
Seoca says, "The speed and fury of your mount will allow you to swiftly dispatch foes, if used properly."
Seoca says, "Now be off with you! You do not have time to listen to an old man like me prattle on -- there is darkness afoot, and you must face it!"

Objective 13

Speak with Seoca to complete your training.

Seoca: 'Excellent work <name>. It will take several years to truly master the art of mounted combat, but you are off to an excellent start.
'I think the battlefield shall teach you more now than I can, and time is short. I have many young riders yet to train this day.'
Seoca: 'Good luck to you, <name>!
'Dark times are upon us, and I hope to see you at the forefront of our efforts to drive them back.'
