Bestowal dialogue

"The denizens of the Old Forest stir restlessly, unnerved by lately-appearing strange creatures. Aware of the danger this poses to Buckland, Marigold Boffin has brought you to the forest to further investigate."

Background

In search of the strange tree-creatures she saw, Marigold has taken you deep into the Old Forest.

Objective 1

Marigold is waiting for you to catch up before venturing further into the Old Forest.

Marigold: 'I didn't think we'd be so lucky, getting here without being attacked by forest animals!
'The place where I saw those tree-creatures isn't far from here. Don't worry -- I know the Old Forest like the back of my hand.'

Objective 2

  • Defend Marigold

You should defend Marigold as she guides you through the forest.

Marigold Boffin says, "Keep an eye out!"
Marigold Boffin says, "They're scared out of their wits. With those tree-creatures mucking about, I can't say I blame them."
Marigold Boffin says, "Once this is all over, I hope the forest calms down."
Marigold Boffin says, "Watch out!"
Marigold Boffin says, "Was that a ghost? It looked like it came from the barrows!"
Marigold Boffin says, "More ghosts... this doesn't bode well."
Marigold Boffin says, "Wait -- I see the tree-creatures, over there!"

Objective 3

  • Talk to Marigold

Marigold has found the tree-creatures.

You should talk to her and come up with a plan.

Marigold: 'It looks like they're talking about something important. We can't fight all three of them at once, but if one leaves, I'm sure we can stop the remaining two.
'For now, we ought to listen to their conversation. It might help us figure out what is going on.'

Objective 4

  • Eavesdrop on the tree-creatures

Marigold has suggested eavesdropping on the tree-creatures.

If one of the creatures leaves, it may be possible to stop the remaining two together.

Marigold Boffin says, "I'm counting on you to have my back, <name>!"
Wood-troll Corruptor says, "Many shades have been drawn to the sword."
Gulmúk Dampmould says, "Excellent. The Gaunt-lord will be satisfied."
Gulmúk Dampmould says, "Once he gets what he wants, this forest will be ours."
Gulmúk Dampmould says, "Do not disappoint me."
Wood-troll Corruptor says, "Yes, Gulmúk."
Marigold Boffin says, "Come on, this is our chance!"
Marigold Boffin says, "You won't ruin this forest. Not while we're here!"
Marigold Boffin says, "Hah, I doubt they ever fought anything as short as me!"

Objective 5

  • Defeat the tree-creatures

Marigold has challenged the tree-creatures.

Objective 6

  • Talk to Marigold

The tree-creatures have been defeated.

Marigold: 'Well, this day keeps getting stranger and stranger! If ghosts are being drawn to the forest because of a sword, we need to find it. The Bounders are already worried about the forest animals; we don't need to add Barrow-downs ghosts to that list!
'At the very best, I know someone who might be able to help us. I'll take you straight to him!'
