Quest Text

Background You have accompanied Lord Glorfindel to Ost Brandras to confront the Gaunt-lord, Ferndúr the Virulent. Objective 1 Talk to Glorfindel You should speak with Glorfindel before proceeding against the enemy. Glorfindel is standing outside Ost Brandras and waiting for your aid in confronting Ferndúr the Virulent. Glorfindel: 'The time has come, <name>. If this Gaunt-lord's fell powers are truly the cause of the evil in the Trollshaws, he must be dealt with. 'We cannot allow him to muster any more of the dead and bolster his strength. 'Ready yourself, <name>. None shall keep us from this task!' Objective 2 Follow Glorfindel into Ost Brandras Glorfindel must not be defeated Glorfindel is determined to deal with the Gaunt-lord Ferndúr who is causing evil to stir up in the Trollshaws. Glorfindel says, "We must hurry, <name>!" Glorfindel says, "I sent eight warriors to scout the altar where you encountered Gúrdring..." Glorfindel says, "...for it is likely that Ferndúr himself has claimed Ost Brandras." Glorfindel says, "Let us move swiftly to find them!" Glorfindel says, "Long has it been since Ferndúr last revealed himself to the eyes of the living." Glorfindel says, "Yet, the disease that grips the Trollshaws can be the work of no other." Glorfindel says, "Hold, <name>. There is an ill haze in the air ahead." Glorfindel says, "Something is not right here, <name>..." Glorfindel says, "What has Ferndúr done to you?" Glorfindel says, "Rest easy, my dear friend..." Glorfindel says, "A Gaunt-lord is not easy subdued... my warriors knew who they faced, and their training failed them still." Glorfindel says, "Ferndúr's contagion has stripped everything from them..." Glorfindel says, "...withered to naught but a husk." Glorfindel says, "What new terror is this?" Objective 3 Fight your way to the altar with Glorfindel Glorfindel must not be defeated Glorfindel is determined to deal with the Gaunt-lord Ferndúr who is causing evil to stir up in the Trollshaws. Glorfindel says, "We must reach the altar before this sickness can spread any further, <name>!" Glorfindel says, "Ferndúr must not be allowed to bring his ruin to more of these lands or my kin!" Foul Fell-spirit says, "Why did you send us to our deaths?" Foul Fell-spirit says, "You knew we stood no chance..." Foul Fell-spirit says, "His disease consumed us all..." Foul Fell-spirit says, "You could have saved us!" Glorfindel says, "Silence these lies! Your taunts do not fool me, spirits!" Objective 4 Talk to Glorfindel Glorfindel must not be defeated Glorfindel is standing at the base of the altar in Ost Brandras. You have fought your way through many fell-spirits and should now confront Ferndúr when you are able. Glorfindel: 'Our foe expects us, <name>... this much is clear. 'Ferndúr's vile influence has claimed too many of my people and sickened our lands. His disease must be purged from the Trollshaws. 'I see only his foul servants here, but the Gaunt-lord must be nearby. Let us advance with care...' Objective 5 Approach the Gaunt-men atop the altar Glorfindel must not be defeated Glorfindel is determined to deal with the Gaunt-lord Ferndúr who is causing evil to stir up in the Trollshaws. Ferndúr the Virulent says, "Ah! So the mighty Glorfindel finally graces me with his presence..." Ferndúr the Virulent says, "I wondered how many more Elves I would have to rot away before I drew you forth!" Glorfindel says, "Be silent! My people and these lands shall not suffer your pestilence any longer." Glorfindel says, "Your reign ends today!" Ferndúr the Virulent says, "Nothing shall keep my blight from Middle-earth, not even you, Firstborn!" Objective 6 Defeat Ferndúr the Virulent and his minions Glorfindel must not be defeated Glorfindel is determined to deal with the Gaunt-lord Ferndúr who is causing evil to stir up in the Trollshaws. Ferndúr the Virulent says, "Not this day! Where I go you shall not follow, and know this..." Ferndúr the Virulent says, "...the North shall rot all of Eriador!" Objective 7 Talk to Glorfindel Glorfindel is determined to deal with the Gaunt-lord Ferndúr who is causing evil to stir up in the Trollshaws. Glorfindel: 'It is as I feared...
