A Parting
"Let there be an end to this delay. Farewells are never easy, are they?"

Background

Ravaedron has asked you to accompany him as he bids farewell to his friends the Stagshorns, before he leaves Middle-earth forever.

Objective 1

Talk to Ravaedron outside Fernbrake Cot

Ravaedron is outside Fernbrake Cot, the home of his friends the Stagshorns.

Ravaedron: 'You will find the Stagshorns most agreeable, my friend. They are a charming couple, and their son Bran is quite a lively lad.

'I will let them know we are here.'

Objective 2

Accompany Ravaedron as he bids farewell

Stand with Ravaedron and provide him the comfort he needs as he bids farewell.

Bran Stagshorn says, "Ravaedron! You're back!"

Ravaedron says, "It is good to see you again, young Bran."

Ravaedron says, "Are your parents at home?"

Bran Stagshorn says, "Aye."

Bran Stagshorn says, "Mother! Father! Ravaedron's back!"

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "What do your folk say? Maygo Vahnen?"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "May Go Vahn In."

Ravaedron says, "That is quite close, my friends."

Ravaedron says, "Mae... govannen..."

Bran Stagshorn says, "Mae govannen!"

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "Mae govannen!"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "Mae govannen!"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "Who is your new friend, Ravaedron?"

Ravaedron says, "This is <name>, an adventurer lately come to Mitheithel."

Ravaedron says, "I was hoping to introduce you."

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "Well, any friend of yours is a friend of ours."

Talk to Maddoc Stagshorn

Maddoc Stagshorn has welcomed you to Fernbrake Cot.

Maddoc Stagshorn: 'Come inside, come inside! There are few roads in this land, and you must be weary from your travels!'

Objective 4

Talk to Glenys Stagshorn inside Fernbrake Cot

Ravaedron stands outside Fernbrake Cot, the home of his friends, south-east of the old village of Glynafon.

Glenys Stagshorn: 'Have you known Ravaedron long? We met him only recently, but he is dear to us, and the tales he has told us of long ago times and distant places have captured our imaginations! Did he ever find the prey he sought, the dark-robed villains that drew him to the Angle?

'We are sworn to secrecy, and will speak of them to no one else. But I confess the nighttime shadows seemed deeper after he spoke of the horseless riders loose in the wild!

'Still, we fear them not. My husband and I come from tough stock; none could long live in this land without being made hardy, or beginning so!'

Objective 5

Visit with the Stagshorns as Ravaedron bids farewell

Stand with Ravaedron and provide him the comfort he needs as he bids farewell.

Bran Stagshorn says, "I have been looking for the wraiths as well!"

Bran Stagshorn says, "If I find them, they had better watch out!"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "Bran!"

Ravaedron says, "My mission was intended to remain a secret, Bran."

Bran Stagshorn says, "I haven't told anyone!"

Bran Stagshorn says, "Is that... is that why you came back?"

Ravaedron says, "No."

Ravaedron says, "I came to say good-bye, for I will be leaving these shores."

Bran Stagshorn says, "For how long?"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "When Elves leave Middle-earth, they leave for good, don't they?"

Bran Stagshorn says, "Why?"

Bran Stagshorn says, "Don't you like it here?"

Ravaedron says, "Of course, but... it is complicated for me."

Ravaedron says, "But fear not: you will be protected even after I am gone."

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "That is what concerns you?"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "We can take care of ourselves."

Ravaedron says, "Of course... but I still wanted to make arrangements for your safety."

Ravaedron says, "Dangers encroach even upon lands once thought secure..."

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "Do you think so little of us? We did not befriend you to keep us safe!"

Glenys Stagshorn says, "Do all Elves treat their friends this way?"

Ravaedron says, "I think there has been a misunderstanding. Please allow me to explain."

Ravaedron says, "You have not seen such dangers in Mitheithel as I have, and..."

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "So we are like children to you?"

Bran Stagshorn says, "I am nearly a man grown!"

Ravaedron says, "Listen, my friends. I did not mean..."

Maddoc Stagshorn says, "I think you had better leave, Ravaedron."

Ravaedron says, "Maddoc... Glenys..."

Objective 6

Talk to Maddoc Stagshorn inside Fernbrake Cot

The air has grown chilly inside Fernbrake Cot.

Maddoc Stagshorn motions for you to speak with him.

Maddoc Stagshorn: 'I am sorry you had to see that, <name>. It pains me to say this, but perhaps Ravaedron was not as close a friend as we thought. [Elf, High Elf: Your] [Non-Elf: His] people and ours must simply be too different.

'Did he befriend us... out of pity? Do all long-lived folk look upon the men and women of the Angle as mere mayflies, alive for so short a time they must be safeguarded and shown sympathy? I thought our friendship with Ravaedron was different, but I suppose it was not.'
