"The Elf-loremaster Isferon received a gift from his friend Berenin before he passed over the Sea, but the gift is wrapped in a riddle. Before the gift can be revealed Berenin's puzzle must be solved...."

Background

You have come to the cave where Isferon has been keeping the boxes left to him by Berenin.

Objective 1

Isferon is standing inside the cave.

Isferon is waiting to speak with you before he opens up the three boxes and learns what secrets his friend Berenin left behind when he sailed into the West.

Isferon: 'I have the three keys at the ready. Let us see what secrets Berenin left for me when he sailed into the West!'

Objective 2

  • Watch Isferon open the boxes and learn their secrets

Isferon is standing inside the cave.

Isferon is opening the boxes left to him by Berenin.

Isferon says, "I am ready to see what Berenin left behind, <name>."
Isferon says, "I do not understand."
Isferon says, "This box is full of earth. There are small stones in the dirt."
Isferon says, "There is a letter inside this box! A letter from Berenin!"
Isferon says, "Here is what the letter says."
Berenin says, "Hail, Isferon!"
Berenin says, "Congratulations, first, on your success!"
Berenin says, "It cannot have been easy to find someone to solve my riddles for you!"
Berenin says, "No, do not scowl! Written in jest, and with love, Isferon."
Berenin says, "Why did I leave you these boxes? You must understand by now, surely!"
Berenin says, "Into the first box, I placed a handful of earth."
Berenin says, "I wanted to remember the feel of that earth between my fingers forever."
Berenin says, "You will understand someday."
Berenin says, "Into the second box, I placed this letter."
Berenin says, "You refused to speak to me today, but with this letter I can speak to you."
Berenin says, "The third box is empty, for I leave its contents up to you."
Berenin says, "When the time finally comes for you, too, to sail West..."
Berenin says, "I have gone on too long."
Berenin says, "This, then, was my last gift to you, Isferon, though it is as much a gift for me."
Berenin says, "I wanted one last riddle-game with you, Isferon."
Berenin says, "I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you again. Good-bye, my friend!"

Objective 3

Isferon is standing inside the cave.

Isferon has opened the three boxes his friend Berenin left behind when he sailed into the West.

Isferon: 'I thank you, <name>. I have learned more than I hoped to, and I feel it has made me richer than anything else could have. Let me know if you are ready to go, and we can return to Duillond.'
Isferon: 'Let us return to Duillond, <name>. I have much to think about.'
