Laurelin was one of the Two Trees of Valinor, the younger counterpart to Telperion. Her leaves were a lighter green than Telperion's, edged with gold, and her flowers grew in firey clusters. The light of Laurelin was gold to Telperion's silver. Laurelin shone, for half the day, opposite Telperion, save for the hour at the beginning and end where the two trees shone dimly together, as one woke and the other went dormant.
Laurelin was killed in the Darkening of Valinor by Ungoliant, in alliance with Morgoth. Laurelin bore one last fruit before her death, and this was set in a vessel to be pulled by the Maia Arien and become the sun.
