Automatic Quest Bestowal

Automatic quest bestowal was introduced with the Riders of Rohan expansion and was extended to include more of Middle-earth with Update 9.

Effectively this means that characters will encounter quests in the worlds, without interacting with any NPC. Such quests will be bestowed when entering certain locations, levelling up to certain levels, facing or defeating certain enemies, achieving certain goals, logging in during a festival or event, and more.

Automatic Quest Accept

Quest Available - (when option is OFF)

The following option is found at the Options window → UI Settings:

  • Always accept automatic quests — This setting is off by default.
ON   — When a character has been auto-bestowed a quest, a gold ring will appear in the "alerts window".
OFF — When a character has been bestowed an available quest, a large button will pop up; see image to the right.
Note: Some quests, like Hired Ruffians?, will auto-bestow regardless of this option. However, this is extremely rare.

With the option off a normal quest bestowal window will open. Notice that sometimes a quest is bestowed before defeating the related enemy or picking up certain items (this may require accepting the quest while fighting that very same enemy). If a quest is bestowed after defeating an enemy that very enemy will count towards the object only if accepting the quest quite quickly.

Failing to accept within a certain time (usually 5 minutes) it counts as a cancelled quest, requiring yet more time to pass before it will be bestowed again.

With the option on the gold ring icon in the alerts window shows up, without any concern about getting credits. Notice though, if the quest log is full, no quests can be auto-accepted; this is expected and equals interacting with an NPC.

Remote Quest Advance

Automatic Quest Advance

Another button named Quest Ready to Advance will pop-up when a character has completed some, or all objectives of a quest. Clicking the button will open the normal quest window, with the options to advance to the next objective, or to claim the rewards and finish the quest.

Many quests will auto-complete without any final dialog window but just some log messages.

Tip: These buttons can be relocated to any convenient location on the screen. (The default key-stroke is "Ctrl+\" but this differs depending on the language layout of the keyboard.)
