Battle of the Gwathló

The Battle of the Gwathló was the final and decisive battle of the War of the Elves and Sauron.

Tar-Minastir of Númenor sailed his navy up the Gwathló river and hit Sauron's forces from the back. Sauron was already ailing from his defeat at Sarn Ford and retreated to Tharbad, where the Númenóreans fell upon him in numbers.

Seeing the opportunity to strike, Gil-galad pushed on from the west and caught the Dark Lord's army in a pincer. Sauron's army was decimated and he bare escaped himself, returning to Mordor alone and seething, swearing revenge upon Númenor for their intervention.
