Dol Tarlang, (Sindarin for Tarlang's Head) is the tallest mountain in the lone spur of the White Mountains running along Tarlang's Neck and located south of the Blackroot Vale. It is named after the gargantuan mythical giant Tarlang, who according to legend stumbled and fell while carrying a load of rocks, breaking his neck. Tarlang's Neck was said to be formed from the break in his neck, while Dol Tarlang was his petrified head, with Tarlang's Crown formed of his fallen diadem. The two smaller peaks of the spur represent the loads of rocks that Tarlang carried when he fell.
