Déagol

Déagol was a Stoor Hobbit from the Gladden Fields. In Third Age 2463, he and his best friend and cousin Sméagol found the One Ring half-buried in the river-bed while boating. Not willing to give the ring to Sméagol as a birthday gift, Déagol was lured in by the desire of the ring. Sméagol too was ensnared, and murdered his cousin and hid the body to claim to the ring for himself. Déagol's corpse was never found, but his death would haunt Gollum for the rest of his very long life.
