Lynx

Lynx are medium-sized, solitary felines found across Middle-earth, ranging from dense forests and wooded hills to open tundra and mountain slopes. Agile and stealthy, they are capable hunters, relying on keen senses and silent movement to stalk prey, yet they are generally cautious around larger creatures and humans.
Lynx will defend themselves if threatened, giving warning signs such as growls, ear-flattening, and bristling fur before striking. Not all lynx are hostile; many will retreat when confronted, but experienced travelers know to respect their space, as even a single lynx can be a formidable opponent.
These cats are also known to travel long distances, demonstrating remarkable endurance and adaptability. Some have been observed assisting adventurers or participating in quests, as exemplified by Willem Whisker, who escorted a certain Hobbit across the wilderness. Their intelligence and awareness make them unpredictable allies or opponents in the wilds of Middle-earth. In the southern lands of Haradwaith, lynx share ecological and behavioral traits with their cousins, the caracal and serval, though those species are more slender and desert-adapted.
