'''Shire-reckoning''' (SR) is the calendar system [[hobbit]]s used. However, hobbits in [[the Shire]] and hobbits in [[Bree]] counted differently.

In the Shire, [[Shire-reckoning|SR 1]] equals [[Third Age]] (TA) 1601, when Marcho and Blanco from Bree founded what is now the Shire. It can be noted that hobbits usually ignored the [[Fourth Age]], starting [[Shire-reckoning|SR 1420]], and carried on in their own way as they usually do.

However, in Bree, [[Shire-reckoning|SR 1]] corresponds to TA 1300.
