Toughbeard History

Tokald comes from a lone line of Dwarves. The Toughbeards are from the Longbeard clan. They claim to be the first of the dwarf-kind to protect Durin the first. This fact may not be true, but the Toughbeards say it is. Doril was born sometime in the First Age, or even before. He was one of the captians of the guards. Little is known about him and his son, because of Tholid. Doril and his son, Folrid, were sent to explore some newly found caves in the Misty Mountains. They never returned from this quest, but after a few years, Tholid claimed to be the forgotten son of Folrid. The dwarves around him did not believe this true, and started to go through Doril's and Folrid's records and houses. This enraged Tholid, and he burned his father's records and grandfather's house. All other artifacts or objects were melted. Tholid did not become a guardian of any dwarf lord. His son, Noralk, restored his family honor by taking an oath that from that day on, his bloodline would serve the dwarf king. This oath has been held true to this day.

Noralk's great grandson, Nokad, was the first of Tholid's bloodline to be called Toughbeard. He got this surname from a little skirmish between goblins and the dwarves. Nokad was on patrol with a small company of dwarves, when they were ambushed. After the goblin's were destroyed, a mountian troll came roaring down the mountain toward Nokad. The troll was holding a cruel spear, and it threw the spear at Nokad. According to legend, and the accounts that Olbak the Old had found, the spear hit Nokad and knocked him down. Instead of staying down though, he sprung back up, pulled the spear from his thick beard, and threw it back at the troll, killing it. The other dwarves in his company were shocked to see him alive, and ran to help him with his spear-wound. To their surprise, Nokad was unharmed, only his armor had a dent in it, and he said to them, "No wonder we have beards! They act as good armor!". From then on, the line of Tholid was called Toughbeard. Nokad was a great dwarf, and fought in many small skirmishes and large battles. It became a Toughbeard tradition to name the next generation of Toughbeards with names that are similar to his name.

The next generations of Toughbeards were loyal to Noralk's oath, and continued to fight and serve the dwarf king. Durlak I was another great dwarf, and also closer to the elves than his grandfathers were. Olbak Toughbeard the Old was also different than other past Toughbeards. He did not serve the dwarf king in battle, but as a recorder and scribe. He was also a great metalsmith, and very interested in the lore of dwarves. He was the one who discovered and recorded all the Toughbeard family. Nokad V, who was Olbak's great grandson, became friends with some elves during his time. He meet a powerful elf champion named Destail, and later in Toughbeard history, Destail helps another Toughbeard. Nokad V's great grandson, Durlak II, became great friends with Destail, and they had many advantures together. The future Toughbeards were also friends to the elf champion.

Foral, son of Durlak II, talked little with Destail. Foral's young son, Tokald, knew Destail better than Foral ever did. Foral was sent on a mission, but was killed by goblins. Durlak the II soon pasted due to old age. Before he died, he asked his good friend Destail to watch over Tokald (only 65), because he was the last of the Toughbeards. Destail invited Tokald to the Raenruin, an Elven kinship.
