I suspect Brogur's text depends on character race. It has been changed before on this page, but what I see matches the quest text as it was originally written. Here is what he says to an elf:
'What did you say your name was? <name>? I can barely pronounce that.
'You'll have to make yourself especially useful with a name like that.'
I wonder what he says to dwarves. -- Elinnea (talk) 12:11, 30 May 2012 (EDT)
Here's what he said to a Man:
'What did you say your name was? <name>?
'Is that even a real name? You'll need to work especially hard to make up for that!'

As far as I know, these are the lines tied to race, not gender. --Tiberivs (talk) 15:59, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- Man / Beorning
- Is that even a real name? You'll need to work especially hard to make up for that!
- Dwarf / Stout-axe
- That's a good solid dwarf name. You'll have to make yourself especially useful if you expect to live up to that name.
- Elf / High Elf
- I can barely pronounce that. You'll have to make yourself especially useful with a name like that.
- Hobbit / River Hobbit
- You call that a name? You'll have to make yourself especially useful if you expect to live that down.
