Bestowal Dialogue

"You have been asked by the proprietor of the Forsaken Inn to investigate the source of a terrible wailing noise coming from the basement. Rumours abound that the inn is haunted and as a result, business has been suffering."

Background

You find yourself inside The Forsaken Inn at midnight. The innkeeper has asked that you investigate the source of the wailing noises coming from the basement.

Objective 1

  • Investigate the source of the wailing noises

Patrons have already begun complaining of the noises in the basement. Explore the area and see if you can uncover the source of the noises.

Kobbi Stonestar says, "D'hear that? It's coming from the bookcase..."
Kobbi Stonestar says, "What the-- a secret door? Don't expect me to follow you down there..."
The bookshelf slides open to reveal a staircase descending into darkness

Objective 2

  • Explore the depths below The Forsaken Inn

The bookshelf was hiding a secret passage leading down into the earth below the Inn. You should explore this cavern and see if you can locate who or what is making those noises.

A suspicious-looking man stands before a glowing, rune-marked door

Objective 3

  • Talk to the suspicious man

You have found a suspicious-looking man reading a book and staring at the glowing, rune-marked door in front of him. Who is this man, and why is he down here? You had best ask him.

Umín says, "Wonderful! This is a riddle door... if you don't know how to open it, just ask!"

Objective 4

  • Explore the caverns

Umín, the man you met in these caverns, has agreed to assist you in your exploration of this place. You must use his expertise to make your way deeper into the caverns.

  • Continue to explore the caverns

Objective 5

  • Bring Umín to the burial chamber

You have discovered what appears to be a burial chamber. Perhaps Umín could shed some light on this place.

You have discovered the burial chamber of Captain Rabghul
Umín says, "It seems to be some kind of burial chamber..."
Umín says, "It's really him..."
Umín says, "After so many years my search is finally complete..."
Umín says, "...but what is this?! It isn't here!!"
Umín says, "Impossible! He must have been buried with it...maybe under this..."
Umín says, "Help!"
Umín says, "Gah! Noooo!!"

Objective 6

  • Press onwards through the caverns

Umín has been crushed by the cave-in. You must press on without him. You are on your own now, so be always on guard.

Umín says, "Did you really think that you could come and take what is rightfully mine?!?"
Umín says, "This necklace was passed down through my family for generations until that... THIEF took it from us!"
Umín says, "After that terrible event, my ancestors' fortunes turned and what was once a great and noble people were reduced to beggars!"
Umín says, "All the years I spent searching ancient tomes and records for the rogue's whereabouts finally led me here..."
Umín says, "And then you show up! Did you think I would allow my family's treasure to be taken AGAIN?!?"
Umín says, "I have to admit that you did prove to be useful, but I'm afraid I no longer require your assistance."
Umín says, "Now you shall join that rogue in his eternal slumber in this forsaken place!!"

Objective 7

  • Defeat Umín

It is Umín. Alive and well, it seems...too well even. It appears that he has gained an almost supernatural strength in his absence. He wears a red, glowing necklace around his neck. He is also a bit angry with you...you will have to defeat him if you want to survive.

Umín says, "Now stand still so I can stomp you!"
Umín says, "Ha! My necklace will shield me from your puny blows!"
Umín says, "I'll pound you into dust!"
Umín says, "Here, let me lend you a hand!"
Umín says, "Urk! Heal me, my necklace..."
Umín says, "Aaarrgh!!! Wha.. what happened?"
You have freed Umín of the necklace's power

Objective 8

  • Talk to Umín

or

  • Escape the ship

The spinning blade-trap has knocked the necklace from Umín's neck, and it lies glowing on the floor. Umín himself lies crumpled on the floor. Why did he attack you?

Speak with him and allow him to explain....

Umín says, "It's him! He's returned!"
Spirit of the Necklace says, "FOOLS!!! You think you can defeat me so easily?!?"
Spirit of the Necklace says, "You have merely defeated one of my pawns! Prepare to face your greatest challenge!"

Objective 9

  • Defeat the Spirit of the Necklace

It wasn't Umín at all that was trying to kill you. It was the spirt inhabiting the necklace. It was controlling him, making him do its bidding. You must destroy the spirit, lest it escapes from the place and wreaks havoc upon Middle-earth.

Spirit of the Necklace says, "Fly you fools!"
Spirit of the Necklace says, "Now you have angered me!"
Spirit of the Necklace says, "NOOOOOooooooo...."
Defeated the Spirit of the Necklace

Objective 10

  • Talk to Umín

It is over. The spirit has been defeated. Speak with Umín and explain your victory.

Umín: 'Is it truly over? I am sorry for all the pain I have caused. I was blinded by the necklace before I even set eyes upon it...It consumed my thoughts and my life. It is the reason I pursued this endeavour in the first place. Now that the spirit has been destroyed, it has no meaning to me. What shall I do with myself?
'Just leave me here with my thoughts....'
