Critters

Many Creatures are far more timid and less dangerous than those considered to be beasts, and they will scamper away and hide - although they need to be quick as Hobbits seem to love throwing stones at them anyway. Also, most cannot be harmed by Elves. Collectively these creatures are called critters in the journals
