I think the Lorebook suffers from the same issues. Its contents
are out of date with respect to the game,
or they are trying to cope with multiple versions of the same
object. We are both trying to track a moving
target with greater or lesser success.

(Can't figure out how to quote text in Liquid Thereads, so I made it up...)

This point should probably be its own thread, but --

The Lorebook is an interesting "critter." In doing a lot with Luas, Skinning, and data.lotro.com lately, I've gleaned some info from various threads on the LOTRO Forums, lotrointerface.com and similar places.

Basically, Turbine does NOT "operate" everything. One thing which you may or may not know, both the LOTRO/DDO stores are completely outsourced. I haven't bothered to find out who is the vendor, but like much of the Internal Game Engine "parts" there are a surprisingly large number of, surprisingly large (as in $$ and staff sizes) firms which cater to the Gaming Industry. Not just the more obvious things like Graphics houses, but also those that supply some very basic components like "physics engines." It's an interesting world that is surprisingly well hidden. But I digress...

I bring up the store because it has often been admitted by Turbine that in-game updates to Turbine Point can frequently lag behind totals showing in the store by as much as 48 hours! Though usually not more than about 2 hours out of sync, 24 hours is not unusual and is commented on surprisingly often in the forums.

This is a "given" with regard to the Lorebook, and data.lotro.com. As defined by Turbine somewhere in their "documentation" for data.lotro.com the Lorebook information is only updated once every 24 hours -- that is the information available from data.lotro.com. (Yes, data.lotro.com is a resource provide by Turbine, unlike lotrodata.com which gathers its data from data.lotro.com and reformats it. I have a "how to" in my Sandbox -- User:Magill/Sandbox-4)

Like the Lua and Skinning operations, support for the Lorebook is an, "oh and by the way, you also are responsible for ..." job. What this means is that the resources available to them range from virtually nil to zero. Although, with the added visibility of the Turbine Lua Manager now, that may (has?) change. Some Devs are very communicative, while some are not. I can theorize about a number of whys, but right now, there are a bunch of ROI updates that are simply not visible. Another individual and I are speculating on the "correct" interpretation of certain Apache errors, but to me at least, the "simple" answer is -- the data is in the Lorebook (data.lotro.com), but it was added such that it is not "shareable." The real question is, I guess, is that because the Lorebook is outsourced AND, as with lotro-wiki a "fan" operation? Hard to believe that now as we approach the 5th anniversary of LOTRO, the Forum and My Lotro are still considered "beta."
