Add weekly coupon code

Is it an idea to add the weekly coupon code to the mainpage under News & Updates like:

Coupon Code
Get Universal Solvent, with code SOLVEDUNI through January 20th!

Weekly update is needed ofc Tiberivs (talk) 19:13, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

Why not. Sucamarto (talk) 06:22, 15 Januray 2022 (UTC)
Maybe remove the gobline picture, move the crafting box there, and add Weekly coupon and sales box. --Drono (talk) 10:13, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
Even better... Ill try something Tiberivs (talk) 18:29, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Great idea Tiberivs and thanks for discussing before making a large change on the homepage. This makes getting coupon code quick and easy instead of having to dig through beacon articles. I am hoping when they also run the special coupon code again for free quest packs we can also somehow showcase that also. --Oakheart (talk) 23:38, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
We could move golem to the welcome to Lotro-wiki at the top - align him to the right and put the coupon codes there? Did Tiberivs make his test page to show what he's "trying"?? Rogue (talk) 14:48, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

Unbalanced Section

Right now the "New and Updates" are becoming much taller than its siblings to the left of it. All other sections are fairly balanced. What can be done? Is everything there current? (dunno) Can anything be done with? (perhaps) Can super-long links be shortened? (absolutely!) Can some links have smaller font size? (maybe)

I will fix some already now. Revert if needed :P — Zimoon 17:32, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

I have looked at the sections and reordered them a bit at User:Drono/Main_page
Motivation behind some of the moves:
  • Lotro Store deserves its own section - it should also make editing it is easier - considering also putting it on subpage
  • Monster Play is very small part of the game - moved to the bottom row
  • Merged crafting into character box - to make space for Lotro Store, also there wasn't that much info
I believe the main page look a bit better like this, might want to also change the icon for feedback appreciated. --Drono (talk) 13:02, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
I also mentioned this issue on Discord recently, as follows 'Also general suggestion, why not remove the central image, shift the crafting section to the left and make the news and updates section double length so that the LOTRO Store sales stuff can go back into it without stretching the page out. If we really want Gollum still, he can be moved up into the Welcome to the Lotro-Wiki box.' https://ibb.co/fxHqy0y. Your soloution seems fine too, but this whole page needs reworking to make it break down properly on mobile, as previously stated. --Garlo (talk) 13:54, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Garlo's version looks really nice, though too dark for me :P
Just noticed a few things though. We should avoid having icons in the "for sale" list, don't you think? To me it looks not good. Images always lighten pages up compared to text-only, so in that sense Gollum makes sense. Why not have a few Lotro-related images to rotate between? Weekly, monthly, season-wise? — Zimoon 14:06, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Just a quick comment to the above: If you look carefully at Drono's version, you'll notice that the 'Crafting' part(s) have been incorporated at the bottom of 'Player Characters'. I was looking for that bit too and thought it had been removed, and it took me a while to find it, so it stumped me at first as well! :D
Personally, I rather like Gollum there, because it adds a nice touch and "mixes it up" a bit, I think. Gives the page a better 'feel'. :) --Stargazer (talk) 16:40, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Looking good Drono! I think the different sections are ordered from top to bottom by importance. Maybe we can use File:LOTRO Point-icon.png for the Store section? — RoyalKnight5 (talk) 14:09, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Main page update

Together with Garlo we have come up with an update mainpage layout that is responsive. The idea is that on devices with screen between 1200-1500px it will show same as current. On bigger devices the layout would switch to 4x2 boxes, and on smaller to 2x4 and 1x8. Example at User:Drono/Main page, feedback appreciated. --Drono (talk) 15:14, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Proportions look odd on mobile, should probably be using 1fr instead of auto, also mobile has this font size issue that needs sorting generally, not specific to this change, but most noticeable on the main page. UPDATE: we worked out a fix for the font sizing issue - Garlo (talk) 17:04, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
The version at User:Drono/Main page looks great, though I assume the font fix is not there yet. Still looking great. — Zimoon 12:38, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
Just add body * {max-height: 1000000em;} to your custom CSS, if you want to test the font fix. - Garlo (talk) 16:41, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Please Update

Please update the link [[Legendary Items]][[Legendary Item]] to avoid the redirect ... whether it should display as singular or plural on the main page is another story 😉
And see Template talk:ItemIndexFooter while at it. // Many thanks — Zimoon 19:25, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Bump. — Zimoon 16:19, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Please update my quest page if you have more information about it Quest:Word from Carn Dûm. — Ilyarad (talk) 19:42, 18 November 2022 (CET)

Creatures

Is it possible to change Category:Scourge Creatures into Scourges, or add also Category:Roving Threat Creatures, Category:Hidden Threat Creatures and Category:Trophy-hunter Creatures to the main page. Seems a bit odd now. (User:Hierok, 1-12-2022 17:15)

Advertisements broken?

I haven't seen any adds on the wiki for the last couple of days. They may be broken. SirDaddicus (talk) 03:12, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

Ads have been removed since most browsers block them these days and future GDPR changes will make it even more difficult to enable. --Lotroadmin (talk) 03:15, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
OK, thank you! SirDaddicus (talk) 12:08, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Does that make the wiki financially non-sustainable? It's been ages since I thought of that. Mogafi (talk) 03:16, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
