Lore

Prince Ostecthel was Luilloth's husband, son of Prince Amondir of Cardolan. When fog covered Tyrn Gorthad, where the princes of Cardolan ruled, Ostecthel went into the fog as his father once had to face it. Luilloth took their son Ostir, still young, to Fornost for his protection, and returned to take up the rule of Cardolan as princess-regent, with Ostecthel laid low by the Grey Fear in the mists. Luilloth was beloved by her people while she ruled.

Years later, once Ostir took up the mantle of prince, he was summoned to the defence of Weathertop against the armies of Angmar. The Grey Fear returned in the absence of Ostir and his soldiers, and Dol Ernil was laid waste. Ostir was ambushed and slain when he returned, his hound Astoryn left alone in the downs, where Luilloth found him. She survived the ruin of Dol Ernil, being away from the keep, and when she realized her people and family were dead, she vanished into the Old Forest in search of a way to end the plague of the Dead. She spoke there with Darogandes, ancestor of Cedrach and Henbran Amon, and with Goldberry, and entered into Sarch Vorn, the Black Grave. Living eyes have not seen her since.

A statue of Luilloth and Astoryn stands in the courtyard of Dol Ernil, near the remains of the throne room.
