They have no flesh, nor feathers,
Nor scales nor even bone
But they do have fingers
And thumbs of their own.

If you break me, I'll not stop working.
If you can touch me, my work is done.
If you lose me, you must find me with a ring soon after.

The more you take, the more you leave behind.

I can run but never walk
I have a mouth but never talk
I have a bed but never sleep
I have a head, but never weep

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountains down.

Walk on the living, they make not a mumble
Walk on the dead, they mutter and grumble

I have streets but no pavement.
I have cities but no buildings.
I have forests yet no trees.
I have rivers yet no water.
