Creating new items

I noticed that you have created a number of new items. Let me give you a few "how to" pointers.

  • Please use the "Create Article - New Item" entry from the left margin of a page to create new item entries. Do NOT simply cut and paste from other pages unless you pay strict attention to all of the changes that need to be made:
Examples: Item: Pauldrons of the Predator (Level 75) and Item:Pauldrons of the Predator (Level 100).
When created correctly, the ToolTip will appear in the RIGHT side of the page. These two items appeared on the left side because the "Disambigpage" name did NOT match the actual name of the page. This would have been correctly configured had you used the Create Item tool. The "Name" parameter can be modified to eliminate the "(level 75)" for correct display.
By not using the Create Item Tool, you neglected to include the "| item_level =" parameter for each item - which is how they are now distinguished.
Similarly if you examine the "Boilerplate" Item Entry on the Help page, you will note that there should be an entry on the page "=== Details ===" which describes WHERE this particular Item is found.
I suspect that you were modifying OLD armour set information -- as all armour-sets today have bonuses only for 2 and 4 items. The 3 and 5 Item bonuses were (or should have been) eliminated back in about Update 10, I forget when Turbine announced the change. The WIKI simply does not have enough editors to keep things absolutely current and we depend upon individual such as yourself to "catch" such changes and update the Wiki accordingly. The page Arms of the Predator (Level 75) needs to be updated accordingly. (It hasn't been updated since I created it in 2012.)
* I have fixed the Disambigpage name problem.
  • The pages:
Are all components in the Armour Set Spyhill.
See: Help:Item Sets and Create new item set for details on how to create the set item.
And then the individual Items are created using the Create new item tool.
Using these will create the Tooltips necessary to duplicate the Tooltips found in-game.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

I have begun updating the listing for Tongdir - hunter trader in the Moors. Phew... a lot to change and add.
I've continued what you began -- tagging the existing entries with "(Level 75)" so that the sets, which now exist at Level 75, 85, 95 and 100, can be found.
The Arms of the Predator (Level 75) items and set have now been updated with current information.

  • Item Icons:
Great work with the armour Sets!!! For a new Item, you don't have do upload a new icon for this item. The most icons you can find in Category:Armour Icons. If not, upload it and add it there. Barny (talk) 09:43, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Note especially, "How to delete a page" in Tips for new editors above.

The infamous apostrophe problem

Looks like you encountered the difference between Wall's and Wall's :) The first is the keyboard apostrophe, and the second - Wall& #39;s - contains the HTML apostrophe.
In particular, the disambigpage requires the HTML apostrophe.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to use: | disambigpage = {{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}
Otherwise you need to manually change the single character apostrophe to the HTML string & #39; (with no space after the &).

Same issue again -> https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Item:Bronze_Northman%27s_Mace_%28Level_100%29
Once a page is created how do you introduce either of these fixes?
The easiest way to solve this problem is to use: | disambigpage = {{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}
Otherwise you need to manually change the single character apostrophe to the HTML string & #39; (with no space after the &).
Quite simple actually, just edit the disambigpage entry .. COMPLETELY!  :)
  • The "| disambigpage =" entry MUST equal the actual COMPLETE actual page name -- you left off the "(Level 100)" trailer on the page name.
The "name" parameter can be anything. It controls what is displayed in the Tooltip DISPLAY, not where the Tooltip is displayed on its own 'Item:" page.
The "| disambigpage = {{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}" entry is NOT evaluated until you Save or Preview the page. And the "text" of the evaluation is not inserted into the page until AFTER you have saved the update. So after you have saved the page, if you go back and edit it again, you will no longer see the "{{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}" text, but the actual substitution which has taken place. ("subst" is short for substitution.)
Either change can be edited into the page at any time.

Item Naming Issues

In the past, Turbine has provide unique names for individual items. However since Update 12 and the release of Level-Scaling in "Big Battles" they have simply used the same item NAME, but with a different "Item Level" number to "scale" the attributes to a particular item.
The end result has become a "problem" for the Wiki. Namely, we have many Items which were some level (typically level 50 or 65) which now have versions at levels 75, 85, 95 and 100.
Therefore, we have adopted the naming convention ... "<name> (Level xx)". And just to confuse things, occasionally, some items (like jewellery in particular) have simply (xx) appended rather than (level xx).
This make "matching the tooltip" more difficult.
  • On the Item page, you need to edit the "| name = " paramater to eliminate the (Level xx) reference so that it displays correctly, while maintaining the Actual page name when you create the item and the "| disambigpage =" parameter to be the "<name (Level xx)>".
  • THEN when you reference the item in the Item Set you wind up using the syntax: "[[<name (Level xx)>|<name>]]" - as you have discovered.
Using the (Level xx) construct is preferred to using the (set-name), but both have been used in the past. Using (Level xx) is usually more "descriptive" for anyone scanning a Category Listing -- on the assumption that they are looking for items by level.

Using Talk pages

When asking questions, you should use the User's Talk page -User_talk: Magill - rather than the main page - User: Magill.

The reason is simple. The MediaWiki software contains automatic notification controls which will send an mail to the address set in the Users Preferences (User Preferences / Email Options): check: (Email me when my user talk page is changed) when their Talk Page is edited. It also shows up on the page "Recent discussions."

Otherwise, it is simply "dumb luck" if the entry is seen.

I tend to see them with no problems because 1- I'm logged in close to every day and 2- I also "Patrol" which highlights "recent changes" by new editors.

The problem with "Recent Changes" is that it lists EVERY change on the Wiki, so when editors are active, there are many entries and requests simply scroll off the bottom of the page, assuming that one has even looked!

Sand-Flies

Hi there! You've been busy - cheers for all your hard work lately. :) Quick question: Can you confirm if the cosmetic pet skill is Sand-Flies or Sand-flies? (Capital or small "f" in "flies"?) The game usually uses a lower-case letter after a hyphen, so I just wanted to double check.

Latest Round of Bingo Boffin

The latest round of Bingo Boffin has update 3 of the shields used earlier, exactly same name but diff stats, whats the bets way to handle this?

These are the 3 shields; Recovered Light Shield Recovered Warden Shield Recovered Heavy Shield

Original Shields https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Item%3ABingo_Badge#Bert_at_Ost_Guruth

Updated Shields https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Item%3ABingo_Badge#Bert_at_The_Dolven-view --Sucamarto (talk) 08:17, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

You can always add level indicators in brackets behind the item name. See Coldfells Medium Armour Quartermaster for examples - all armour items there have the same names but different stats. --Tharondir (talk) 08:25, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
Will do

White Squirrel Page Issue

Anyone know figure the Skill Information Icon for White Squirrel comes back showing the Blue Beetle?

Editing the page does not mention the Blue Beetle anywhere?

Easter Eggs

Has anyone ever made and Easter Eggs page for item like the Sandcastle in Evendim and other mostly unseen items.

I documented some of them: User:Magill/Reference-easter-eggs but never got around to making a page in the main stream. The new Scholars Guild Hall in Bree is obviously yet another new one.

Tables

Don't change tables with "width" lesser than "850px" into "%", they look awfully narrow on 4x3 monitors ("worth" column is especially affected)... I'm forced to use one now, instead of my 32" monitor and now I can see some things I couldn't earlier... Ideal width for 1280x1024 (I consider no one is using smaller resolution than that) for a table to fit in the page is 750px (100%)... 70% doesn't fit with tool-tip ether, try 66%, that's 2/3 of the page... Steppenwolf (talk) 22:38, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf

My mistake, it's 750px that fits the page width... Zoom was at 90%...

Technique for updating "Patches" items

This one took me a while to understand as it wasn't documented back then -- When you create a new page for a "Patches" item remember to change the header:

<noinclude>
[[Category: Patches|20170117]]
</noinclude>

If you look at the Category page, you will see an explanation of the number following "Patches".
It is a date in the sequence: YYYYMMDD to sort the articles by date, both on the Category Page display itself and especially when the
<categorytree mode=pages depth=0 showcount=on>Patches</categorytree> is used. I.e.
Patches(18 C, 2 P)
(BTW, I answered your question on my talk page there.)

U20 Crafting "stuff"

I have been creating/updating TRYING TO TRACK -- the crafting stuff in U20. Boy is ist a mess!
I Have a page full of "notes" as I have been attempting to organize and track the component parts so I don't miss thing.
User:Magill/Projects-Update_20-The_Wastes-Crafting#Crafting_Recipes is the Recipe section. Scroll up the page to see the rest of the things I'm trying to track.

Area for Roving Threats

Rolled back an edit of you today - but maybe I was a bit too quick. Are you sure Shakatrog can *only* spawn in Malenhad? In my memory, he can spawn in multiple areas in Angmar (see: Roving_Threats#Angmar), but I don't know all the individual possible spawn points by heart. --Ravanel (talk) 21:42, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply! I wouldn't want to remove content if it's correct. --Ravanel (talk) 10:32, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Pocket Items

Pocket items around level 100 are scaled,  Silver Web of Vigour (Scaled) for example, but it seems attributes values are the same, only different level... And it's update 21 for verification, not 20.1.2...
Steppenwolf (talk) 12:10, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf
Please see discussion on the Talk Page of the Boilerplate: Item help page: Talk:Boilerplate:Item#Scaling_Items_revisited
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 16:48, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
No need to add tables to the disambiguation pages, everything is clear and visible without it... I created table for  Gleaming Silver Web and if you find some other items of the kind, just add stats, no need to create another item. Also added Category:Scaled Pocket Items.
Steppenwolf (talk) 04:54, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf

Update Verification

Add right update info... It's 21.1, not 21... Same in the scaling items tables... Steppenwolf (talk) 15:49, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf

It's not about when it's released, but what update is active at the moment of verification... You updated level 114 Mathom stats today, while update 21.1 is active... Those are probably the same stats as update 21... Point of that column is to add the last update when verified, because it's scaled item and you can't verify it all at once...

Use of (Deed)

Heya, just a heads up. Please don't use "(Deed)" (or "(Title)", for that matter) at the end of (new) deed (/title) pages, unless multiple pages would otherwise have identical names. Someone else accidentally gave all Mordor deed and title pages "(Deed)" and "(Title)" at the end of the page name, which has caused a lot of confusion among contributors. For more info, read Template talk:Deed#Use of (Deed). Thanks! --Ravanel (talk) 08:31, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Duplicate file

Hey Sucamarto. Did you have any plans for File:Coin Floor 1.jpg? It's a duplicate of File:Coin Floor.jpg. --Ravanel (talk) 23:28, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply! I made sure all the pages use File:Coin Floor.jpg and deleted the other. --Ravanel (talk) 19:44, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Mordor Project

Hey Sucamarto, I've made a Mordor project page. The main goal of this page is to have a central place where we can look up what needs doing for Mordor. It's pretty hard to get an overview of what's been done if everyone works in their own little bubble. Hopefully we'll get Mordor complete soon when we're all working together!
From what I remember, you've done things for Mordor related topics in the past. Could you check out the page for me and add the following (if applicable):

  • what you've worked on in the past
  • put your name under To Do on the topic(s) you would like to work on now

Of course, if you think of anything that needs doing that's missing, you can add it to the page. That would help tremendously. Thanks! --Ravanel (talk) 11:15, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Lasgalen Owl

Hey Sucamarto! I noticed that you cleared the Lesgalen Owl skill and created Lesgalen Grey Owl. It would be better to move the first and rename it to the second, keeping history and talk pages for things that are renamed in game. Thanks! Rogue (talk) 14:49, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Strongholds of the North Maps

I've moved all of the Map work over to a new page -- as it seems that there will be a lot of changes to track.
And created a new category: Category: Strongholds of the North Maps
I'm guessing (hopeing) that there will be maps of Dale and Lake-town coming in future builds. Dale especailly needs one -- it is huge.
