Help with uploading images

Hi Ravanel. I am sorry I cannot log in the IRC now, I am at work and I am unable to use it here :( But please tell me what issues are you having and maybe I can help you. -- Ahrien 14:12, November 7th 2010 (UTC)

Lol, you're doing this at work. :) Thank you for wanting to look at it! The problem is, every time i try to upload a picture it says "Upload warning: there is a curruption or a wrong extension" or something like that (I got a dutch version). Now I found out I can upload .png files, but not .jpg files. And it appears .jpg files are needed in the creature template.
I dont know what goes wrong, maybe it's because I am using a Mac? Are there any specific programs you have to use to create a file? This is very frustrating, because I have like 50 missing pictures of creatures on my computer but can't get them online. --Ravanel 14:29, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
I found out that ToyViewer is a nice freeware for the Mac which can crop screenshots and save them as .png and .jpg files. --Ravanel 17:05, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Forum registration problems

As I was starting to like this wikifying, I wanted to join the forum to be able to ask some questions. I am not able to register though, because the page wants me to submit a confirmation code it doesn't show. I've tried in Firefox and Safari browsers both. I can't contact the Board Administrator because the link pops up a Mail program that doesn't work. If any reader has an idea about how to solve this, please tell me. --Ravanel 15:52, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Creature Images

Hey, when taking screenshots of creatures make sure that they are not selected. No ring around them or name showing. You can turn names off by pressing N. Also, if you move your mouse over the creature it brightens them like you are highlighting and the screenshot does not show the mouse pointer at all. Just in case you get the urge to take screenies anyway. Rogue 16:01, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

OK. --Ravanel 17:23, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Creature Info

Hey, so Location is only for Region.. examples: Bree-land, North Downs, Forochel etc. If it is an instance or raid then have the name of that where location is. And never a link. I've set up in the template for categories. Region creatures and Instance mobs. If there's no category link at the bottom but stub that means that place or instance hasn't been added. I have been updating the template as I see them. The Location section where the tooltip coords should have more information. That's where you can link the place you have been linking under Location. If you have questions let me know. Rogue 16:13, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rogue. Yes, I do have questions. First, is it the Location in the template you are talking about? (I mean, the part that looks like a lore-master inspection?) Or the Location beneath?
  • At the Location in the "lore-master inspection", I've been trying to do as was done with creatures before. I noticed that creatures from Eriador are placed in a Region, but those in Mirkwood in sub-regions (for example: not in the Scuttledells, but in the Shrine of the Ancient One). This is confusing. I don't know why this was done this way, but I have followed the trend. I don't usually link the locations in here? But today I noticed the location of other creatures are sometimes linked? (For instance: Mordeloth).
  • The Location beneath: if you mean this, where should I put extra information about the location then?
For the rest, I barely know how templates and categories work. I'm afraid I don't understand much of what you said. Do you mean that if I put for instance "Sword-Halls of Dol Guldur" as location in the template of a new creature and the place does not exist yet, you will add that place a few days later?
I've been trying to do things right, but things are just so confusing. --Ravanel 17:03, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I've fixed the Creatures by Location categories. I hope that helped! :) Rogue 23:35, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
1. Location in the template: the one that looks like the Lore-master analysis should be what's now clearly defined in the Creatures by Location categories... Mirkwood, Redhorn Lodes (not Moria).. etc.
2. The additional information where the == Location == tag is should be where you put the more specific sub-region link. See some examples that I've been working on in North Downs.
3. If the creature is inside an instance, then the instance name goes in the Location in the template.
4. Never link the location inside the template. Whoever is doing this is doing it wrong and I've been trying to fix that.
5. If you notice that the categories at the bottom of your new page say Stub/Mob, that means the location you entered may not exist in the template yet. Don't worry about that I'll fix it or someone else who looks through the stubs will fix it.

I hope that helps clarify some things. Rogue 23:41, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, that does help. Although it's frustrating having to wait till someone else fixes stuff. :D (I always try to make it as finished as possible.) The point with that one beast (Riptalon) in Moria is (the only time ever I put "Moria" as location), is it does not only live in the Redhorn Lodes... it just appears in different regions throughout Moria, but there is no option to add several of course... Well you must know him yourself, he is quite famous. ;-) But it's just not true to put him in the Redhorn Lodes for people who see the page. Well it's all part of categorisation then, getting so tired of that, will leave that to you the geeks. ^_^ --Ravanel 23:51, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Icons

All icons must be 32x32. I noticed you uploaded some that are not. Rogue 23:35, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, must've overlooked that. Is there any easy way to get them at that right size? How can I see it is that size when I got a screenshot? I should I just stop with uploading item icons at all? :( --Ravanel 23:40, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Are you familiar with Photoshop? What do you use to crop your screenshots? Rogue 23:44, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm not really familiar with Photoshop... don't have it on my computer at the moment. No money either to buy a legal version. I am working at a Mac and use the grab-tool to make .png pictures (but the bad thing is, you can't see the x and y) and a freeware program called ToyViewer to grab the .jpg ones. Now I'm writing this, I think there might be some way to see the x and y with ToyViewer, it's just not really easy, cause it's manually. Maybe I should just give up on the item icons, it's boring anyway, but there are so many missing, I can't supress the urge... :P --Ravanel 23:59, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Good job btw on those creature shots :) I like seeing no names and no selection rings! :) Rogue 23:46, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, I needed that. Feeling a bit sad because I apparently am doing everything wrong. Off to bed now. :) --Ravanel 23:59, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Hey Ravanel, how can you say this? You are doing an awesome job! I came here a couple of years ago with a very basic knowledge of wiki, and now I have learned some more. I am still learning as a matter of fact. But nobody starts wikifying knowing everything about wiki, the only thing we would ask is that you keep at it, learning with every update. -- Ahrien 7:46, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, I will try to. :) --Ravanel 12:47, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to Ninja status

Welcome to Ninja status! You've been doing a great job and ask the right questions when you come across something you don't know. Check out Ninja for what you are able to do with this new status. Rogue 15:42, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

And now an admin! Thanks for all the hard work --Lotroadmin 05:41, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Hiya Ravi

I think I recognize you from somewhere... hmmm.... wait wait! I think you were the RK I was deeding with in the Fanged Pit. Not sure though, it was long and I'm known to be really Forgetful :P Isabelle87P 09:14, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Good to see ya Ravi, I'm off for the time being, but i'll be returning to Gilrain in August, and then I'll finaly have my own account since Anie shares character slots with my sister Ardaniel. :P I'd love to Improve Wiki since it's the only thing I can do (Besides listening to Lotro Soundtracks on YouTube) to keep the Lotro Spirit alive. Im missing it sooooo much :( Isabelle87P 12:15, 6 July 2010 (UTC) Need an icon of reforged second age items for the reforged item pages, would love to see if you could provide some icons and info concerning the materials needed to craft them :D Isabelle87P 12:15, 6 July 2010 (UTC) No problem, I'm willing to help fill out some creature info, since a lot of creatures don't have pictures on their pages. Isabelle87P 04:04, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Skirmish creatures

I really love that table class "altRowsMed" and added it mechanically; feel free to do the same with any other creature as you go through pages! For the "Power", having that info at hand in the same screenshot, and being the only other "fluctuating" value, I thought I could put it as well. My lore-master can now too grab foes' information, but I still need few more levels to start grab skirmishes' foes information... And I don't know if I should attempt a Tier II skirmish just to see if resistances & mitigation can change... About the last promotion, I don't think I'll be using these new powers a lot, but let me know if I should for anybody! :) -- Goingbald 20:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Hoping to see you soon ^^

Hey Rav, I've just got a new account with the 60 day play thingy. :) I'm coming back as an RK and I would love to do great barrows with you if you have a low level alt. :) Cya soon! PS: Loads of editing done, added new stuff and coordinates to flets in Lórien. Added some new creatures. I can't play until July 24 though, and it'll suck leveling up all over again >.> Isabelle87P 04:08, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Woo! I'm so happy right now :) I'm glad to hear you're on vacation -- one does need a break :). I've added a load of info on Rune-keeper skills because it seemed like nobody wanted to make pages on the skills. Did some grammar checking, added info to descriptions, and added new pages like Vivid Imagery, Prelude to Hope. I've already added pages for all the Words of Grace Skills and missing skill pages :) I'm planning to see whether I can find some info on the neutral skills. Right now i'm checking RK pages and pages of Lórien for any grammar mistakes and stubs that need to be updated. And also we need to update our Weapons page so I've added a patch stub. But I can't access the info box sadly. :( See ya soon :D Isabelle87P 05:48, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Deed categorization

Hey Tiberious. I was looking to Category:Tower of Dol Guldur Deeds and saw that some deeds are found in their instance deeds category, but also in this bigger category. The idea when I created this category was that the pages themselves would only be found in the subcategories (for instance: Category:Sammath Gûl Deeds etc), with exception of the meta-deeds. This counts for categories in general, it gives a better overview of them. I'll change this accordingly, hope that is OK with you. --Ravanel 08:13, 9 November 2010 (EST)

Hi Ravanel, hmzzz indeed something to think about. I arraigned them as they are in-game. I just updated ALL Tower of Dol Guldur deeds, and they are all in Category:Tower of Dol Guldur Deeds. Depending on which deed, they can also be found in for instance Category:Sammath Gûl Deeds. At last I added them all to Southern Mirkwood deeds. So what do you think? To much categories? I was planning to update the Scourge of Khazad-dûm, Moria and SoA deeds too this way.--Tiberivs 08:29, 9 November 2010 (EST)

Quests and instances

I was looking at Quest: The Grey King and Quest:Instance: The Grey King and noted they are part of different Quest Chains, which is a bit strange, not certain if this is correct. Perhaps you could incorporate the instance in the normal quest, like as in Quest:Chapter 12: Prisoner of the Free Peoples (note also how it is done in the quest chains). --Ravanel 09:05, 1 December 2010 (EST)

Hi again, I'm adding the Gloomglens quests at the moment... there are indeed some differences now. There are 2 ways to get to the final quest for defeating the Grey King:
  • Start the hobbit questchain as soon as you find a hobbit item which starts Little Wonders, which will finally give you the quest to kill the Grey King, if you did not get the quest from the ranger (on top of that there is a race-depending quest).
  • Find the crushed rock, report to 1 of the Rangers and find/fight the Grey King for them.
So I think we need to keep them separate, otherwise it will become to complicated. --Tiberivs 10:54, 1 December 2010 (EST)
