Great job with updating all the cook's food information! Keep up the good work and we hope to see you around! Rogue 12:22, 5 January 2009 (PST)

Editing

Something to note is, check out Category:Decoration Items for what you should put in the type: description for categories... instead of the deco-slot.. which we never use :). We have most Decoration categories set up so you shouldn't see a red category link. Also, don't scare me with major changes on recipe indexes (those are my pride and joy)... LOL. Any major edits or changes should be talked with admins or others who you notice are working on them. Or brought up in the talk pages so we can figure out what everyone would like and to make sure we are all on the same page. Thanks so much, you're doing wonderful so far. Rogue 13:59, 27 January 2009 (PST)

  • Sounds good on my end.. also note the changes I made to Cook's Guild recipes.. right now the text is different for Requirements (but that's something we have to live with atm).. so Profession on one line, the Tier name on the next... and also note that we can add Faction and Standing for the next two lines if needed.

Also to note, check out Metalsmith Artisan Recipe Index... this layout (specifically for armour) is what others have come up with as a change on looks... compared with say Tailor Apprentice Recipe Index. I wanted to make the table of items similar for Cook but can't really make it fit the same since each item has different components.. but if you can think of something use your sandbox.. just create User:Gaerlin/sandbox to make changes and present it when you think it's done.. only if you want to. We want the information to be out there, but we also want it to be readable and manageable as well. You don't have to if you don't want to, it's just something I wanted to throw out there. Rogue 14:24, 27 January 2009 (PST)

AND... lol... Project:Crafting Feel free to update this with what you are working on or think needs help.. I have been absolutely TERRIBLE at not updating that page as I was the only one for a long while! I'll even see about updating this too on my end.. it's great to see someone else interested in that area.. I have so many ideas.. I'll update that page... Rogue 14:27, 27 January 2009 (PST)

Getting Drunk in ME

I found those stats on the Lorebook site. However if that is incorrect - I'll check today sometime with my Cook - and the in game brew tooltips dont show those negitives then we can fix that on our site :) I always love a 1up on Lorebook ("official wiki") as they can usually be outdated and not have "everything" about the game. Cheers Rogue 08:28, 28 January 2009 (PST)

Firefox and Chatzilla

LOTRO has a irc account: freenode - LOTRO-wiki. If you run firefox I would suggest getting the chatzilla addon. Once apon a time a few of us would hang out in there while we edit, get to chat and ask questions or just hang out. Rogue 09:04, 2 February 2009 (PST)

Myself and one other are beginning to use this regularly, he is on mIRC, which would also work. We would love to see you join the chat room when you are editing.

Improved icons

Hey I was wondering how you made the icons with 5 in them as I'd like the same for all the guild "improved" recipes. :) Let me know the easiest way to do that, thanks. Rogue 20:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

  • lol - well, I mostly know my way around how to get the icons, my main question revolved around the number. Thanks for that last tid-bit about overlaying the other icon with the stack.. it's going to take a bit of time to do. Thanks again. Rogue 06:03, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Recipe pages

Some changes are being made. Please look at Template:Recipe and let me know what you think in the talk. This will be used from now on instead of the Template:Tooltip for the recipe portion of the page (top). Also Template:Crafting went through a couple changes. I noticed your recent creation of a recipe doesn't show these changes. I will do my best to update the crafting project pages to show the new code to copy over as soon as we both agree its ready to implement. Once that's set I will be going through every recipe to make those necessary changes. Rogue 16:55, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Great Job!

You've been doing a great job adding to the wiki, thought I would give you a heads up and say great job! Those class quest items are great! Rogue 16:36, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks - it's always bugged me that there wasn't one single definitive place to go to find all of the class quest items, so I figured might as well make it the wiki :) --Gaerlin 18:11, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Why do you say "Any" for minimum character level for First Age items? I know Bilbo Baggins used Sting while still basically a newbie (well, he ~was~ 55 years old), but all the First Age weapons I've seen say level 60 required. --Gradivus 11:29, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Crafting template

The lines for Number-of-Normal-Results and Only-One-Use MUST remain in the article or else the template does not function correctly and leaves the code on the article when it should not be there. I realize you have this "thing" for deleting what is not necessary but those lines ARE necessary. Please re-add them into the recipes you have been creating. Rogue 01:07, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Rune-keepers

Hi Gaerlin,
We both seem to be working on rune-keepers! If you don't mind, I'd like to move your bonus tables to separate pages, and then transclude them on both your and my pages. (And it looks like you're taking your information directly from the game and yours are more up-to-date than mine are atm...) I'd also like to tabulate the Set Skills list like those on Rune-keeper Traits, and move them as well to separate pages for transclusion.
Btw I just started up a Rune-keeper and I think I'm really liking it. :)

Template:Infobox Traits

After looking back a ways, sorry about the initial post, I believe this should work well. The only suggestion I make is that you add a section for class trait sets inside this template instead of making each set it's own template. Rogue 16:49, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Need Your Input

Check out Lotro-Wiki_Contributors'_Corner#Recipe_Index_Updates as I would greatly appreciate your opinion / input about the Recipe Indexes! We are looking to update/change/or keep some information depending on how people feel about it. Thanks so much Rogue 16:09, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Armour

Hey, with any armour sets, both dwarf-make and elven do not have helms/hats, robes, or cloaks. :)

Also, for the categories, it's Category:Heavy Dwarven Armour not Category:Heavy Dwarf-make Armour. I just follow the game labels... :D

And btw, great job so far! Rogue 05:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Ah I wondered why I couldn't find the recipes :) thanks for the heads up --Gaerlin 12:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Book 8

Yep. I read the test server notes a while back. I know. LOL - and I am happy about the changes yet dread filled me at the same time. Sounds good. We will do what we can. Thanks for letting me know where you want to start!. Any idea when Book 8 goes live? That's what we can get started. Rogue 17:05, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Yah saw that when I updated. Oh boy. :D I think I am going to start with my historian.. scholar first. :) Rogue 16:21, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Recipe pages

The {{Recipe}} template is the one used for recipe articles, NOT the {{Item Tooltip}} template! You are using the wrong one when creating new pages and you replaced the Recipe template (correct one) with the Tooltip template (wrong one) on one or more recipe pages. Rogue 19:30, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm don't know how I missed that... I'll go back and correct the ones I changed. --Gaerlin 19:32, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Legendary Items

Nice coverage of Legendary Items, many thanks! :)

  • I wonder about deconstructing, is the heritage rune giving back a fixed or random % of the accumulated IXP? Also, if I deconstruct at level 12, will I get a bit more IXP than at level 11?
  • I don't know how hard it can be to gather, but it'd be nice to have a list of titles and their effect(s) that can be applied to any item (or just weapons?), like "Guardian of the Deep Halls"? Are they only available from quest rewards?
  • About forging relics, it seems to be available only from settings, if I remember well? I've only done that twice I think... So I guess gems or runes can be the result of forging settings?

Main Page

I went ahead and added legendary items under equipment and moved "outfitting" down as well since cosmetic items are also equipment. :) Hope that's alright. Rogue 00:24, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations and Welcome

Hey, I just promoted you to Sysop status so congratulations. You've been doing great work and I am happy to have you here. Check out Lotro-Wiki.com:Administrators to see what you can do! With great power comes great responsibility, so let's keep this wiki in shape and have fun doing it! Rogue 20:18, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Tooltip Issues

I see what's wrong. It's a tooltip error.. but with this line: | disambigpage = Item:Tasgall's Gift of Valour For whatever reason unknown to me, it's works great when the names do not have an apostrophy... 's... but doesn't work when there is one. When items have an apostrophy I revert back to the default {{PAGENAME}} to get it to work. It is no doubt a code issue but I am not sure how to fix it. Rogue 19:02, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Unused Image

Hi there! Doing my usual wiki janitorial work and happened across File:User-Gaerlin-Rohl.png. Let me know if you want to hold onto this or if it's safe to delete. Thanks! Sethladan 15:20, 16 February 2011 (EST) - it's safe to delete, old pic --Gaerlin 17:33, 16 February 2011 (EST)

Char Stat Derivations - Fate/icpr

Hey Gaerlin - please check out my comment re Fate/icpr at Talk:Character_Stat_Derivations. Barny (talk) 16:38, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Verified template

It doesn't seem like the Verified template is working as intended. If you leave out the update parameter, it uses the currentupdate template - but that means that when the currentupdate is updated, all the verifications are dragged along with it when they shouldn't be. For example, A Warden's Cunning - Tier 1 says it was verified in October of last year, for the update that just released a month ago. We either need to remove that condition, or else make it substitute the current update rather than linking to the template.

(I know you didn't create the template yourself, but you're the one who's been making the most use of it so I thought I should bring this to your attention.) -- Elinnea (talk) 15:37, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I agree that it should subtitute the current update instead of just using the template. I'll see if I can make that correction. --Gaerlin (talk) 16:10, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
Looking at this I realize that substition is not possible, because we have no way of modifying the original page to "pin" the Verified as occurring at a specific update. This is the reason that the date/time is a required property. The best way to specify an verification as corresponding to a specific update is to put {{subst:CURRENTUPDATE}} in the fourth parameter of {{Verified}}. I will modify the template instead to not show any update number if one isn't supplied with a parameter. At least that way it will be less misleading. --Gaerlin (talk) 16:30, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
What are those 6 numbers after date parameter in the template?
Steppenwolf (talk) 09:47, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf
That's the date/time format that {{subst:CURRENTDATE}} uses, which is in the format YYYYMMDDHHMMSS. The HHMMSS part isn't shown in the output of the template however. --Gaerlin (talk) 16:24, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Scaled Items

Do not change tool-tips of scaled items from cap level to dots, it looks awfull... And do not change size of 100px tables, I'm trying to uniform it...
Steppenwolf (talk) 06:37, 22 July 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf
I actually like the dots because it accurately communicates that the values for those fields varies by level. If we're not going to use dots, we need to come up with some other way on the tooltip to indicate that it is a level-scaled item. Just putting the level 105 values on there is misleading because, just looking at the tooltip, you'd never realize it is level-scaled. Maybe we can add a "scaled = y" parameter to Template:Item Tooltip that displays some grey text in the tooltip saying "This item is level-scaled" or something like that. Thoughts? --Gaerlin (talk) 12:08, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
Better than dots anyway... Dots are annoying, numbers at least give you some idea about attributes ratio...
Steppenwolf (talk) 15:34, 22 July 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf
We've been using the dots for a long time in skills, most of which scale in some way - for example, Fiery Ridicule. I'm not claiming it's the best, but it does make sense to indicate in some way when part of a tooltip scales with level. Just using the level cap value is not good, because then as soon as the level cap is raised, the tooltips are stuck with a random value of whatever was the level cap at the time when the item was added to the wiki. Some people have tried to reverse-engineer ratios or formulas to display in the tooltips, but then they change those in-game and it becomes a mess.
We've never found a perfect solution. Using either ... or x in place of a value, and then providing the specific values in a table if needed, has worked pretty well for the page itself, but isn't as helpful when you're just reading the mouse-over tooltip. Using the triple dots for item level itself at least has the advantage that it gets added to Category:Item Level ...-- Elinnea (talk) 01:08, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
First, those who are really interested in values of other than cap level items will enter the item page and read tables... Those who need basic info only will read mouse-over tool-tip... If tool-tip is with dots, they will know only what attributes are involved, but will absolutely have no idea what amount to expect... If it says +... Might, +... Vitality, it can be +999 Might, +100 Vitality, or +100 Might, +999 Vitality, or +100 both, or +999 both, or any other ratio and no one will have idea if that's might based item, vitality based item, or balanced item, or whatever... But if it says +300 Might, +150 Vitality for cap level, they will have idea what to expect for lower level items... "scaled = Yes" parameter would be good addition to tool-tip, better than dots in every sense...

Template patching -- Template:Crafting

Since you seem at home with CSS and Templates...

This template is used in the "New Recipe" process. Template: Crafting
See the last comment (from 2014) on the talk page Template talk:Crafting
It's still broken.

I've looked and can't find the issue, but I am now 10+years away from such stuff (I retired in 2006), so "younger eyes" are needed! :)

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 17:28, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
I think I fixed it - take a look and let me know. --Gaerlin (talk) 05:09, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Actually it does look fixed, but existing pages using the template are not updating until they get re-edited/re-saved for some reason. I thought all pages with templates got refreshed automatically by some background process. Is this not the case? --Gaerlin (talk) 13:30, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Relic template

Note that the Relic Template is apparently broken.
It is definately wierd in that you have to specify the "image" not "icon" value to get the image to diaplay on the page.
Then on the Index page, you get an error instead of the correct pop-up.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 20:58, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
I fixed {{Relic}} such that the "icon" parameter now works. If "icon" is specified it will show it, otherwise it will check if "image" is specified and use that (but "icon" will take precedence). --Gaerlin (talk) 21:09, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks!
Very strange -- that is how ?all? of the other templates work. I wonder how long that has been broken.
However, the pop-up is still not happening. The basic design of this template is very different from the others which use the ToolTip template.

Legendary Legacies Index

Truly awesome work!
Creating the page itself is trivial compared to the work involved in collecting the data!
The community appreciates your dedication.

Thanks very much :) I think this fills a gap that's been there for a while, so I'm glad I was able to fill it. --Gaerlin (talk) 14:00, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
