Spam filters

Since anything I try to edit is blocked by spam filters, I am posting here that I cannot edit. I joined primarily so that I could update the information for my kinship, but every effort I make is blocked by spam filters. Is it my user name? I do have a page on a commonly used social media page, which I will not type here, as it seems that that name is a keyword for getting blocked for spam. I am not an experienced wiki user, so I quite perplexed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Belaedrys tihralan (Contribs • User Talk) at 18 April 2016.

Hey, I'll be the first to admit I don't know how the spam filter works, and has been frustrating to some people, luckily I have not yet been affected by it... yet.
I'm assuming it is saying that the word (this place?) is being rejected as 'spam', similar to this image on this talk page: User_talk:Lotroadmin#Spam_filter?
If this is right, apparently the last round of spammers caused a whole bunch of pages and messes to clean up afterwards, and unfortunately your link probably contained a blacklisted word or something.
I may have a solution however, try using google url shortener and see if that works. Unfortunately I don't know much on the spam filter as I said,
and you would have to wait for a response from an admin for further help on this issue if the above doesn't help
Also as far as I'm aware your username shouldn't be causing the problem --Ketrez (talk) 09:02, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
The Lotro-wiki attracts many spammers posting links to external sites, which might be why the link is getting rejected. If what Ketrez posted above doesn't work, let me know the link and the page it needs to be added to (you can post it here, without http part it might work) and I'll give it a try - perhaps it will work for a user with more contributions or editing powers.
Keep us updated. :) --Ravanel (talk) 12:05, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

I am posting my reply to both Ketrez and Ravanel because some of the answers to each may be redundant. Thank you for your suggestions.
I cleared my browswer cache yesterday before trying anything again.
This is the url that I am having trouble with - lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Social:Kinships_of_Imladris specifically the kin name Phoenix Reborn.
I don't think that it is the url or any part of it that is being blocked. When I tried to edit again, I left off the url, thinking it might be the problem. I just added 3 words in my next editing attempt, and those few words were blocked. If I can recall, it was something like transferred to Landroval.
From what I can gather from the talk on that page, it has had a number of problems with someone reordering kinship names and not using alphabetical order, and also many of the kinship names being deleted from the page more than once. Perhaps an overall block has been put on any changes because of these problems, except changes made by admins.
I've tried a few more times to edit and since taking out the url, now I get a different error message, I don't remember the exact wording, but more of a general spam block message for, as you had said, a blocked word.
I tried a simple edit, as suggested in the Things to do pages, and I was successful. I am thinking also that since the attempt to edit the kinship page for Imladris was my first edit, as you had suggested, I was not able to edit because I had not made any other corrections. Hmm, One issue I am noticing at the moment is that the page contains multiple uses of the word: 'fb' (full name)
It also appears it checks the "summary" section for spam words too.
So when ever editing the page it will auto spam error, despite not even writing it. This may need to be either:
  • all instances removed before it will work again, or
  • the filter needs to be more specific in blocking a url, not the word.
For now all I can say is sorry, and we'll all have to wait for some admin decision on the filter.
As for the page user permissions, the page doesn't have any 'locks' on it. It is meant to be able to be edited by the users/kins
(also the spam filter appears to be indiscriminate, as it has happened to some of the admins too...)

On a side note, after I removed to or rather shortened the word down to FB, the page now accepts editing again...
So try and add your link now :)

Haha, once again we were working on this at the same time! Cheers to Ketrez for fixing this. Feel free to revert my change and update the text about your kinship accordingly. :) --Ravanel (talk) 11:26, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, accidentally thought it was Belaedrys that wrote that it transferred, so I added the kin to the landroval page.. Can always delete it though! I've left a note on the contributors corner discussion page about this, so we'll see what comes of this --Ketrez (talk) 11:32, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Cheers for Ketrez and Ravanel, Defenders of the Wiki and the Word! Hearty thanks to you both for your work on this. I was able to edit to my heart's content and have successfully added the information I wanted to. I understood your logic on the changes you made in order for me to be able to post. My first thought when I encountered the spam block was to go in and edit fb word from all content, but being new I thought it wise not to try it. Again, my thanks! Not a problem! Glad to have been able to help. We'll have to come up with some kind of solution for FB, but as for now, if you do come across it again (FB) then just abbreviate it... If anything as a placeholder until something happens about it -- either way, welcome to the wiki ;) -- If there is other questions or issues that arise, you can create a new topic in Talk:Lotro-Wiki Contributors' Corner and someone will reply(hopefully soon™) with help if they can.
