Crafting

On the subject of Crafting (as happens far to often...)
In my course of looking for something I found something else... I started out to create Craft-hall of Galtrev and then discovered many things -- Serendipity if you will.

Crafting Information pointers

    • NOTE: This page contains a number of references from the beginning of the LOTRO-wiki which seem to have gone undocumented or otherwise "gotten lost."

Lotro-Wiki.com:Crafting - (Help --> General Help) -- Is an overview of the topic -- objectives, plans, discussion, etc.
Help:Crafting Help --> Guidelines / Creating Crafting Pages is is an overview of instructions for creating pages.

  • Boilerplates specifically needed for Crafting -- each has a separate link in Help --> Create Article
Boilerplate:Recipe
Boilerplate:Item
Boilerplate:Item Set

Crafting Outline

NOTE: These sections are, for the most part, NOT linked together and must be discovered independently! This is especially true if you try to work your way BACK to something. Frequently it is relatively easy to find individual topics, on a subject, but then there is no mechanism to find related topics. One supposes that Crafting needs a "Category:Region Navigation Templates call it the "Crafting Information Guide" ... hmmm....

[[:Template:Crafting_Information_Guide]] - [[:Template:Category Navigation Box]] - {{Crafting Information Guide}}

These need to be sorted out / created

There are multiple sets of entries ... the in-game items and the wiki narrative; Individual tools and crit'd tools.

  • 9 January 2011: In creating the missing Vocation Guides, I went over all of the guides (see above), updating dialog to match the ROI-Update 5 Dialog and wikifying them.
  • In Wikifying The guides, I note that a number of (presumeably early) "articles" are now things which would be considered "items" ... such as
Copper or Tin or Forge the result being is that there is no "rollover" "tooltip" for the item.
  • The Historian's Guide is now a redundant article... it contains the "guts" of the document: A Historian's Guide and should be deleted.
  • Guide to Tailoring -- needs a home.. bad name; contents should be included elsewhere.
  • Tailor's Tools
  • Item:Tailor's Tools
  • All missing "Guides" added. Vocations is probably complete.
  • It's looking like the introductory crafting stuff (vocation oriented) was not complete, but it appears that the profession level stuff is more so... we'll see.
  • There are a couple of orphan "guides" for professions... or a couple of professions missing guides... don't know which is which. It looks like there is an effort afoot to consolidate Guides with other pages, but I haven't read enough "talk" pages yet to sort that out.
  • Lots of missing images on the vocations page.

Creating pages -- How To create Icons and Items

Turbine has used many duplicate icons since LOTRO's release in 2007, and is using them more and more as the game expands.
These Icons are used in multiple locations via tooltips in recipes, vendor lists, etc. For example:

Therefore when adding armour items (Icons) see: Category:Armour Icons Note that each section has a Talk page which indexes the Icons.

{{Armour Icon Usage Index}}

Which takes you to:

{{Jewellery Icon Usage Index}}

Notes

  1. A (hopefully) complete list of crafting areas, including Rep facilities, to be used to update Category:Crafting Facilities and ???
  2. Should be able to create a "master" transclude for crafting facilities.
  3. Turbine seems to have standardized crafting areas with ROI.
  4. The Craft-halls: many/most need to be "renamed" to be consistent, then extracted and transcluded from settlement's listings.
  5. Farming areas are "normally" external to Craft-hall areas. No farming in Dwarf or Elf areas
  6. Need to identify and list resource ordering/questing areas:
    • These three locations have all been removed with the ROI update and the availability of "resource packs" from the store.
    1. Silver Deep - Prospector Materials - Thorin's Gate - Removed with November 2010 Update
    2. Scholar's Enclave - Scholar Materials - Duillond- Removed with November 2010 Update
    3. Overhill - Forester Materials - The Shire - Removed with November 2010 Update
  7. Need to identify and list Crafting Instances (resource questing areas):
    1. Gharâf-fehem - Prospector Materials - Moria
Gharâf-fehem ~ located in Redhorn Lodes, to the South/South-East of Orc Watch a little ways North-West of the Chittering Hole, and are for Prospectors!
    2. Hadudbab - Scholar Materials - Moria
Hadudbab ~ located in Durin's Way to the West of the 21st Hall and are for Scholars!
    3. Mezer-serej - Forester Materials - Moria
Mezer-serej ~ located in Zelem-Melek, South-East of the 21st Hall, and just slightly North-West of the Nud-Melek entrance, and are for Foresters!
  8. Facilites are enumerated separately as:
    1. Oven
    2. Superior Oven
    3. Camp-fire
    4. Workbench
    5. Superior Workbench
    6. Study
    7. Superior Study
    8. Forge
    9. Superior Forge
    10. Grain Farmland
    11. Superior Grain Farmland
    12. Pipeweed Farmland
    13. Superior Pipeweed Farmland
    14. Vegetable Farmland
    15. Superior Vegetable Farmland
  9. Note that many "Superior" facilities (such as at Esteldín) are no longer marked "Superior"

RoR Crafting Notes

There are three crafting instances at end-game (in the Hytbold area), which reward mats, Tokens of Effort, and relics or the Compendium of Middle-earth, Volume 4 (yes, new crafted relics, including that long-awaited tanking relic, with +crit defence, +phys mit, +tact mit). The Tokens of Effort can be exchanged for more mats, a Token of Hytbold (for the armour set), and a few other things if I remember correctly. The only other crafting instances we've had are those in Moria, which did not launch with that expansion (they launched several months later with Lothlorien).

There are many crafted relics for mounted combat.

The new crafting tools have +22% crit and/or -3.25s mining duration, etc.

The auto-loot system holds 50 items for up to 1 hour. It works only in Rohan and works on foot or mounted. I cannot over-state how good that system is, and I hope to see it added to the rest of the game.

There are new Riddermark Scrolls of Delving and Riddermark Scrolls of Empowerment for level 85 legendary items.

There are new Tarnished Symbols of Celebrimbor for level 85 Second Ages, available in skirmish raids. I don't know of any other method of acquisition yet, but the Epic Books do award a Second Age Legendary Bridle for your horse.

The new "mithril flake" is the Tarnished Crest of Rohan.

There is a new crafting guild rank. Grandmaster of the Guild. If I remember correctly it's 60,000 xp.

Virtue rank limit is now 16.
