Basic Category Structure

Geography (Locations)

Location also known as Archival Geography, refers to all places within Middle-earth that have borders and maps including Lands, Regions, Areas, Settlements, and other places inhabited and governed by all Races within this realm.

For "man"-made buildings and structures, see Humanoid Geography
For natural landscapes and structures, see Physical Geography

Categorization for locations are determined by a hierarchy as follows:

Land > Region > Area >= Settlement > Landmark

Category:Lands are comprised of many different regions.

This category includes all subcategories for each Land of Middle-earth, that holds each Region category.

Category:Regions are comprised of many different areas.

This category includes all subcategories for each Region of Middle-earth, that holds several different subcategories related to that specific region.

Category:Areas are comprised of different settlements, landmarks, and natural places

This category includes all subcategories for each Area of Middle-earth, named < REGION > Areas, that hold all area articles within that specific region.

Category:Settlements range from large cities to small camps.

This category includes all subcategories for each Settlement of Middle-earth, named < REGION > Settlements, that hold all settlement articles within that specific region.

Settlement articles are also placed in another sub-set of categories based on their own set of guidelines:

Note: These categories are found in Category:Humanoid Geography

Category:Landmarks are places of interest; they include POIs (marked with flags) but are not limited to just those.

This category includes all subcategories for each Landmark of Middle-earth, named < REGION > Landmarks, that hold all landmark articles within that specific region.

Category:Interiors include places that are inside a location, such as rooms inside buildings, catacombs, and cave systems. (Outside World)

This category includes all subcategories for each Interior of Middle-earth, named < REGION > Interiors, that hold all interior articles within that specific region.

Category:Instances are separate from the outside world; ranging from solo quest instances to full fellowship raids. (Instance Finder)

This category includes all subcategories for each Instance of Middle-earth, which are categorized by instance type.

Player Characters

This structure is basically dictated by the character creation process and is described under Game-terms Character and Race.

Races

Classes

Certain classes are restricted to certain Races.

Skills and Abilities (Traits)

Each Class has many skills and abilities. Some are unique to particular Races, independent of any given Class.

Skills and abilities are ultimately Categorized by Class above.

Monster Play

Also known as "The War" or Player vs Monster Player (PvMP). Information about Monster Play is categorized under Category:Monster Play

Non-Player Characters (NPCs)

Stuff to be added

Sets

Articles about things which are a member of a set (Skills, Components, Locations, Guides) should be in a category describing that set. In most cases, one or more relevant categories should already exist. A full, expandable list of current categories may be viewed at this category tree

The issues of Items/Crafting/ etc. need to be addressed

Examples

This section is probably not correct and needs revision especially based on current templates and usage

Example 1

In order to add an article to any given category, insert the text [[Category:CategoryName]] (substituting the proper term for CategoryName), preferably at the very bottom of the page.

If the article belongs in multiple categories, the most specific category should be given, so that the page can be found in all of the relevant higher level categories.

For instance... this category tree shows the Captain Skills subcategory, which belongs to two parent categories, along with their parent categories.

[–] Character

[–] Class
[–] Captain
[–] Captain Skills
[–] Skills
[–] Class Skills
[–] Captain Skills

So, by adding the lowest level category (Captain Skills) to the captain skill Last Stand, the article will be indirectly added to all of the parent categories: Class Skills, Skills, Captain, Class, and Character. Thus, when clicking through any of those categories on the category tree, once a reader reaches the most specific subcategory, they will find a link to this specific article.

At the bottom of an article, readers will see links to the various subcategories that have been added to the page (in this example, only Captain Skills would appear); however, they can follow the category trails on those subcategory links to get to whichever parent category they need.

Example 2

If the article belongs in multiple UNRELATED categories that do not overlap, both categories must be added to the article separately (multiple, separate category tags).

A (fictional) example might be a skill usable only by Dwarf Minstrels.

[–] Character

[–] Class
[–] Minstrel
[–] Minstrel Skills
[–] Skills
[–] Class Skills
[–] Minstrel Skills
[–] Race Skills
[–] Race
[–] Dwarf
[–] Dwarf Skills

This category tree indicates that, in order to cover every possible category that a reader might search in, the skill needs to be added to both Dwarf Skills and Minstrel Skills.
