Name and Location Details

The West-gate is mentioned several times in the works of Tolkien, mainly in connection to travelling the Great East Road one way or the other, specifically when Frodo arrived, but also when Gandalf discusses recent happenings with Barliman, and more. Never is it called West Gate but always West-gate.

Never ever in the works of Tolkien is read the name (or denotion) "West Bree" nor "West-bree" and as with South Bree this seems to be an invention by Turbine, perhaps ... ((the rest of this post would 100% double the text at Talk:South Gate so I refer you there :) ))

Update 9

For the record, with Update 9, Against the Shadow - December 17, 2012 the West Gate was beefed up and several houses were moved around, the vault drawn closer to the gate and with a new entrance, superior crafting facilities were added, and superior farmlands added a few steps to the north-east with an expert farmhand vendor. The "beefed up" include more of scenery, including locals as well as structures. Now West Gate looks a lot like a medieval gate is expected to be, with more of merchants and so forth. -- Zimoon 11:01, 29 December 2012 (EST)
