The Hot Shot

I saw level 61 hunter with a title "Hot Shot". It is not listed here. The owner said it came from a deed. Anyone know more? RingTailCat 08:41, 14 March 2011 (EDT)

If you are counting all the days you can do this before level 54, then:

Suggested Edits - Aug 2011

Looking through the list of Titles, I ran across the following: 1) Evendim: The Evendim section appears to be a cross-reference from another part of the wiki. As such direct editing is not possible (otherwise I would make the changes myself). However, the entry for Keeper of Mysteries' descriptive text on this page is wrong; the Keeper of Mysteries (Title) page shows the correct info. Also, none of the Evendim entries cross-link to their respective pages. 2) Nurz Ghashu: This entry is mis-numbered AND/OR in the wrong place. If this is an alphabetical listing, then Nurz Ghashu should be cited as 1.16, not 1.2 as currently shown (the Shire and subsequent listings would need to be re-numbered). If it is an alphabetical listing of zones then it should be 1.1.1 since it is a sub-section of Angmar. Otherwise Raids might comprise their own section, in which case Nurz Ghashu needs to be placed elsewhere along with other Raid titles (but this probably means removing material from other sections - Eregion, etc - as well. The wiki community might want to examine this issue. I cannot advise further because I do not Raid. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DoIHaveTo (Contribs • User Talk).

The "cross-referenced" pages that DoIHaveTo is thinking of, I suspect, are Angmar Titles, Evendim Titles, and so on. Regarding the Rift, fiddle with the formatting on Angmar Titles to move that section to a "lower" heading level (an extra = on each side of the headline) should line it up as a subsection of Angmar titles here (1.1.1). Any changes to those pages will be reflected here, so you can feel free to update Evendim Titles as needed, too. Thanks for the catch! Sethladan 19:14, 14 August 2011 (EDT)
Forgot to check back here, so I've only completed the suggested corrections today. More importantly, I've noticed that except for the first few Regions (A-C ish), links to the individual Title pages exist, but the remaining Regions (D-Z ish) do not. I will be adding the links over the next couple of days. I will note missing Title Pages in the Summary, but not create them as many are beyond my character's level. I've only been working on linking to the individual title pages. However something I've been seeing, but not really paying attention to, is that some of the linked pages are based on a different template. For instance: Guardian of Lothlórien vs Warrior of Lothlórien; the Guardian entry is the most common. Just wondering if I should be pointing out Titles which are in the Warrior format?
Sorry to butt in, but... The Warrior of Lothlórien page is the page for the deed that awards the title. The title itself is here and seems to follow the same template as the Guardian of Lothlórien page. Maegden (talk) 00:35, 7 December 2011 (EST)

Editing Moria, I've encountered an error that needs consideration. The title on the list is Fighter (a PvMP title) which should be referring to the page Fighter (Title). While easy enough to fix (which I've done temporarily) this points out a potential problem: how do we handle exact title names that apply to both the regular and PvMP portions of LotRO? Normally a location, "(Moria)", or the type of page, "(Title)", is appended. In this case both pages could be appended with those terms. This negates the usefulness of the existing differentiation scheme. How should we prevent such issues in the future? (I know a disambiguation tag should be added to both pages, but I cannot locate the script/tag to include.) -- DoIHaveTo (talk) 15:19, 12 December 2011 (EST)
Since Fighter and Fighter (Title) are both titles, it doesn't make much sense to disambiguate them using "(Title)". We could use, perhaps, "Fighter" (for the Monster title) and "Fighter (Fil Gashan)" for the Strength of the Enemy reward. It's not necessary to denote every title as "... (Title)", only in cases where confusion occurs.
It's also not necessary for every conflicting page to be disambiguated. There is usually a page added at the base name, and then subsequent pages using that name are differentiated somehow. The general idea is that the more common usage should occupy the "original" name while pages that are less likely to be visited can get relegated to a disambiguation fate. For simplicity's sake, though, sometimes we just go by whatever's added to the wiki first and disambig from there.
As an aside, we don't have specific code for "Disambiguation Pages" like you see on Wikipedia. To refer users to similarly-named pages, though, {{other}} is often used at the very top of each page in question. Hope that helps! Sethladan 14:49, 12 December 2011 (EST)
From looking at the Lorebook, it appears that Turbine identifies every deed and title with the region name. This is clear from thinking of the tab containing a deed as a folder. With that in mind, it will be very common to find the same deed name or title name reused in different regions. When we encounter a name collision on the wiki, we append the parenthesized region name to the new name. So we might have "Slug Slayer" for the first one, "Slug Slayer (Moria)" and "Slug Slayer (Dunland)" for instance. In the case of collisions between Monster Play deeds or titles we should follow the same pattern. The first page created gets the unadorned name, and the next gets the region appended (Ettenmoors for Monster Play). If we end up with a lot of names, we could rename the original to add the region, and create a disambiguation page with the unadorned name which has links to all the regional things. Agreed, but I had not thought of using "(Fil Gashan)". So that meant using "Fighter (Moria)" and since there is a creature called Moria Fighter it would be confusing. Which implies using "Fighter (Moria) (Title)" and that is an outright failure.
Another matter to considered is how to deal with variables in page names. Currently we have pages for Master Over Fear and Mistress Over Fear - but they are gender dependent variations of the same title. In the Lothlorien section I saw "Class of Victory in Lorien" (with "Class" encased in brackets to illustrate it is a variable) except using brackets in a link breaks the link (I used parenthesis instead). Is there some means of bypassing or escaping characters? Regardless, as is this may cause 9 different pages to be created - one for each class. I basically only read the last couple paragraphs as I haven't had time to edit much around here lately. IMHO, it seems that there should be two redirect pages, named Master of Stairs and Mistress of Stairs, which both point to the CONTENT page called master/mistress of stairs. Alternately, we could be a little sexist and just make Mistress of Stairs redirect to Master of Stairs. That would solve the problem of having to create - and keep current - three separate pages. Ditto on (Class) of Victory - and I think using parentheses is a logical workaround. Just my 2cents. -Adelas (talk) 23:26, 11 March 2012 (EDT)

Missing titles - ROI and Update 6

It appears that none of the ROI titles have been added. I see no entry for Dunland, etc.

It also appears that this list contains only Slyer titles? It definitely does not contain any of the Explorer Deed titles.

It's something that needs to be done when you have a mostly complete list of the titles in an area. On this page, we just transclude the zone titles page. Over there, we summarize the content of the actual titles, IIRC.
We probably have a fairly complete list of RoI title now, so, go for it. We won't have a list of titles for U6 for some time, I expect, so we should wait a while before putting that together. RingTailCat (talk) 20:52, 10 March 2012 (EST)

This title was apparently given out by Sapience exclusively for attendees at the Turbine PAX party, one per person. -- instead of the "traditional" PAX pony. [1]

Class Titles

Running through the unused category list, I found the Category:Burglar Titles. The captain titles is also unused. The other classes have a few, but it seems unnecessary to have the multiple subcategories. I would like to merge the ones that exist onto the already existing parent Category:Class Titles. This page that transcludes them all individually will still show the same information, but with only 1 transclusion. Would this change be unwelcome to anyone? --Savi (talk) 14:00, 21 May 2013 (EDT)

Of course, the real question is... do Burglars and Captains have no titles? ... or is it simply a case that no-one has as yet created WIKI articles for them? Which then begs the question -- are there really that many "more" titles for a Minstrel than for any other class?
However, ignoring that issue... the entire Titles "stuff" needs to be "cleaned up" and/or re-worked. (Minstrel is a good example -- some entries are "(title)" some are not.)
  • Sigh That's another one of those "oh yeah, when I get a round-tuit" projects. I started "catching up" here: User:Magill/Sandbox-titles
  • What I was working out was the hierarchy of "<region> Titles" pages -- there should be one for each region. Category: East Rohan Titles is a good example (I think).
  • There is/should be a 1 to 1 mapping of Deeds to Titles in many cases. I'm fairly certain that there are more Deeds than Deed titles on the WIKI.
I'm fairly certain that the sub-category structure was created because folks expected there to be many more class specific titles than there are.

There are four titles per class for reaching certain levels. I was collecting them once upon a time at User:Elinnea/Sandbox, but I've never gotten around to completing the list. The reason the Guardian and Minstrel are the most complete is that, well, those are the two classes that I have over level 58. Minstrels also have two extra titles because there are titles from two of their class deeds. I don't know of another class that has titles from a deed, but it could be. So basically, those blank categories are only blank because I haven't gotten to them and nobody else has either.
Having four titles in each of the subcategories is not a great number, but there is a possibility that more could be added down the line. I don't see a special need to combine them all into one category, especially since Category:Lore-master Titles can then be included in Category:Lore-master as well as Category:Class Titles, for example.
The (Title) at the end of some isn't random either. I was only using (Title) when the page needed to be disambiguated from a deed or skill that goes by the same name. Normally when I'm displaying the titles in some other place, like this page, I would show them without the parenthetic (Title) suffix. -- Elinnea (talk) 00:12, 22 May 2013 (EDT)
