Is this page needed?

This is more a definition then anything else does it really needs it own page or would it just being listed in game terms page suffice. Oakheart (talk) 16:58, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

That is a good question, and also a difficult one! As I see it, there are several problems here:

First, a user coming here to look for "healer" is likely to be someone who is either new or otherwise unfamiliar with the game, and in all likelihood would be looking for information on the group role (as well established in the MMO scene), I'm guessing. Without having acutal statistics on it (is that something we can get, btw? I.e. the amount of views of a given page during a certain time period, and so on? That would be nice to have, I think!), I'd say the "general interest" in the group role of 'healer' would be (far?) higher than that of the "Healer" NPC, since the latter is by and large rather uninteresting these days – and those who already know about it know what it's for and what it sells etc. and would be unlikely to look up further information about it. So from the perspective of the user, the likely scenario is that "Healer (Role)" is of higher importance than "Healer NPC". That would be my guess, anyway.

However, this page – as it is right now – is rather bare-boned. So yeah, you're right; currently it is little more than a plain "definition" and could perhaps be merged into Game Terms. But that presents us with a couple of other problems: for one, we would then need to somehow 'link' to that information there instead – in order to point users looking for that information to the right place – which might involve making this a redirect to there (so instead of this being an article page holding information, it would instead be turned into a redirect link to somewhere else. As such the page itself is still there – or deleted and 'reformed' in another fashion – so has anything then been 'gained', so to speak?); not to mention that the Game Terms page is a huge, unwieldy beast that's very messy and quite hard for people to find what they're looking for on (it should probably be split up and reworked considerably, but that's a different discussion).

Lastly, as it currently stands, there is a problem with the information contained on this page – which is the reason I previously flagged it as 'Outdated'. Not only is it very bare-boned, as previously mentioned, but also quite inaccurate and very out-of-date with the game nowadays – not to mention being highly subjective; based more on someone's personal opinion rather than being objective and factual. Thus this information needs to be rewritten and updated either way.

Furthermore, there's also the related search issue that Drono mentioned.

So, what then should we do with this page? Do we keep it, move/redirect it, delete it, or what? It is a difficult question, and I honestly don't know. Thoughts?

I think it's useful for new players, though perhaps a page on roles in general would be a better fit for it. The information about healers only being RKs and Minstrels also seems outdated, as it was never updated for the introduction of Beornings. I'm not an expert in group play by any means, but I recently rolled a Minstrel alongside my friend's Beorning, and from what I can tell, the Beorning's healing outpaces the Minstrel. Maybe that changes later, but the point is that it needs to be included.

I would be in favor of moving this to a page on Roles in general and redirect this to that. Rhettorical (talk) 07:31, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
