Rare Fish - Fishing Levels -

Note: The fishing levels are only estimates taken from other sources. Anyone who is currently fishing may update the minimum fishing level if you catch these fish earlier or later than specified. Round numbers are better, but we'll take what we can get.

Also, the order of the rare fish are the same as listed under the deed list in game.

Placement of plurals and possessives

For some reason I thought the convention was to pluralize page names inside the square brackets as before Theodobald's 10:54:13 edit on 20 Nov 2010 (and as I've added the possessive to his name here). That's the way I've been doing it. Should I be putting the trailing s or 's outside the square brackets instead? David 11:06, 20 November 2010 (EST)

Doesn't really matter too much. I've seen it both ways. Rogue 11:21, 20 November 2010 (EST)

Fishing Takes Dependence on Game Time

The fish you catch at any given location is also dependent on the time of day (game time). i.e. Fishing at Halecatch Lake, outside Southern Bree, will provide different catches depending on whether you are there during the day, mourning or evening. This does not appear to affect rare or trophy catches. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BetaSki (Contribs • User Talk).

This info is excellent and should be added to the main page, wherever it fits in. Perhaps some minor editing, but the core is excellent. -- Zimoon 06:00, 28 July 2012 (EDT)

Reference link

The link of reference is not working anymore, so I don't think it makes much sense to keep it now. Gwenwyfar (talk) 12:14, 25 August 2012 (EDT)

The updated link is https:// myplace.frontier.com/~mithrandir2/otherfiles/lotrofiles/fishing/cavg.htm , but while the pics were also moved to the new server, the links on the page were not updated, so the pics don't load. --Heuer (talk) 00:02, 26 August 2012 (EDT)
Updated it to the new link :) --Gwenwyfar (talk) 00:11, 26 August 2012 (EDT)

All uses of "skill" are incorrect

The page contains 8 uses of "skill" or "skillup". These should be changed to "proficiency level". In Fishing, "skill" and "proficiency level" are two different things. See my next topic on this Discussion page entitled "Fishing Skill". 24hourstopickaname (talk) 04:23, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Fishing Skill

This page and all pages related to fishing rods (e.g. Item:Yew Fishing Rod, Item:Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod, etc.) have no information about "Fishing Skill". (At the time of writing this discussion topic, the Fishing page incorrectly uses "skill" or "skillup" when it should say "proficiency level".)

Yesterday, I spent an inordinate amount of time running around chopping and processing Yew Branches. I wanted to get my Woodworker up to master expert so, in turn, I could use Drop of Amber Resin while producing a Yew Fishing Rod to achieve critical success and produce a Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod.

Before I produced the Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod, my fishing proficiency level was 80. The tooltip for the Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod states "+3 Fishing Skill". When Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod appeared in my inventory and when it is equipped, my fishing proficiency level does not go up to 83. Therefore, "proficiency level" and "Fishing Skill" are clearly two different things.

Today, using the new Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod, I fished until my proficiency raised the daily maximum of 10 levels. I saw zero noticeable improvement in performance from the Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod. I'm really curious, therefore, about the concrete effects of "+3 Fishing Skill". 24hourstopickaname (talk) 04:47, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

I second this. I'm using a +10 rep purchased fishing rod and see no difference from the well crafted one, went out and bought a basic one and see no difference. Additionally, it's taking more than 10 tries to get one skillup in ANY water now. While quest results will always happen, even in some quests if you're below level 50 skill, skillups no longer happen during quests, and in fact if I wait longer, and do a few more casts after I've completed the quest requirements, I will get a skillup every time. Something's broken or "streamlined badly." Acatlover2 (talk) 20:47, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Daily reset time is incorrect

According to the "How to Fish" section, "you cannot earn any more fishing experience until 3 AM (server time)".

The time is incorrect. Here's proof:

  • "Yesterday", one of my characters progressed from Fishing proficiency level 171 to 181. The "Daily Maximum" notification box appeared;
  • The current server time, determined using the /servertime command, is 01:10 AM;
  • The "Daily Tasks" counter on the "Quest Log" screen has not reset yet, which is proof that the new game day has not arrived;
  • However, in my Character / Hobby screen, the "hobby bar" is blue, not yellow. Proof that the Fishing Daily Maximum counter resets earlier than the overall game day.

A couple of weeks ago, I filed a bug report. I really don't see any reason that Fishing should be handled differently than all other resets in LOTRO. Turbine responded that they forwarded my bug report to their Quality department.

I don't know the exact time that the Fishing Daily Maximum counter resets. A rough estimate is 6 hours before the new game day. 24hourstopickaname (talk) 06:25, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

"server time" should be linked

In the "How to Fish" section, "server time" in the phrase "until 3 AM (server time)" should be linked.

"3 AM (server time)" tells readers nothing if we don't know what "server time" means.

The problem is...where to link it. Strangely, the page Social:List of Worlds doesn't contain any information about server time. The only place I found information about server time is buried in the "Commands" page regarding the /servertime command.

My wish: A new, separate page in this Wiki entitled "Server Time" because the topic is very important to players.

[40] Hook, Line, and Sinker

In the section "Fishing Quests", something needs to be added to the quest "[40] Hook, Line, and Sinker".

I've been waiting until I reached level 40 to start this quest. I traveled all the way to Rivendell to get the quest. I'm standing in front of the NPC named "Haldúr" right now. He doesn't walk to talk to me.

I, therefore, looked more closely at the "Quest:Hook, Line, and Sinker" page. Buried under "Walkthrough & Notes" is the sentence "If you learn the fishing hobby from Haldúr, he will offer you this quest."

Wow. So if I learned Fishing from somebody else when I was a lower level, then this quest is irrelevant? This quest only appears if a level 40+ player hasn't started Fishing yet? Strange design from the developers.

In any case, I wish this "Fishing" page included a warning or something to tell readers of the wiki that the quest doesn't appear if they've started Fishing earlier.
